Neue schule bits

I have a 4 year old that is currently in a eggbutt happy mouth snaffle. However i am thinking of putting her in a full cheek snaffle for more control on direction. she is soft in the mouth and doesn't tend to lean on the bit. But i am wondering do i go for a standard bit or a neue schule? options greatly appreciated =]

i just changed my 4 year old into a hanging cheek neue schule from a standard eggbutt french link, the difference in him is fantastic (could be coincidence), he doesn't lean any more, stopped poking his nose, putting his tongue over the bit and is a lot easier to ride. It could also be the fact we have been having weekly lessons and he is now fitter, more balanced and off the forehand.

I don't think i'd go back to standard (metal) bits.

I have always been very happy with them, but there is some talk of dangerous breakages in some, which is worth looking in to - but IMO great bits.

thanks. is there any cheaper alternatives to see if it will work.. i am a student and cant really afford a ns bit if she dis likes

Keep an eye out on ebay/preloved and local facebook groups - I have picked up a few NS bits very cheaply. Or check out one of the bitbank/bit lending companies where you can hire for a short time for a small fee I do think they are very good bits.

Cotswold sports do some very similar bits and mine is just as happy in their metal as a NS one.

My 4yr old hates my Ns bits. She won't take the bit down and fights me in them. Same bits but hkm argetan and she's settled and starting to take it down.

Previous head strong pony went very well in Ns. Its horses for courses. As someone else mentioned perhaps try one from a bit bank first.

Hire an NS bit from one of the bit banks to see if your horse likes it or not

Ive just changed my 4 year old into a NS bit. He was in a standard loose ring snaffle but we were finding that he was playing with the bit a little too much, had inconsistent contact and tendency to throw his head about. We are currently trying a trans angled lozenged eggbutt. So far going well, better contact, less head throwing and playing with the bit. So far pleased with it. Worth having a chat with someone from a bit hire company as they are very helpful.

I'm thinking of trying a different bit with P - he's always been difficult to bit & goes well in a rope halter, despite having teeth, saddle & physiotherapist has checked him.

He's currently in a bog standard loose ring (he's been in a few combinations!) but wanting to try something else - how did you decide what to try? There's Mylers, NS ...

He's a 13.3/14hh New Forest pony in a 5.5 mouth piece, if that helps?
