So my NS bit arrived from the bit bank this morning!

Went to try it on her, but (as stupid as this makes me feel to admit it :o) I'm not sure whether the size I chose fits her "properly", or whether she'd be better off with the next size up? And at that price I don't want to get it wrong so I thought I'd better check with you & see what your opinions were!

At first I thought it seemed snug but okay, not that much room either side but you could see both holes and the rings would turn fine. But the bit does move to one side slightly (they all do with her!), which means that the one side will look fine gap-wise, but the other sides hole is covered by her lips, which I think may rub her?

Not the greatest of pictures I'm afraid :o

I *think* it may be too small, but only just.... - this is a 5.75", would she be better in a 6"? Or do you think that would be huge - it sounds it!

I did have a good google but can't find any pictures of horses wearing this bit, so bonus if you have one of your horse wearing the right size which I can look at!
Thank you x

To me that looks fine. If you are worried about pinching, a size too big will not make much difference, try bit guards.

I like her colour... is she dun?

I have the same bit and mine looks like that too and I was concerned at first, but once I take up a contact, (a light contact) the bit rings are clear of her mouth and on some occasions I've worried about it being too big!

I have the NS Waterford Universal and mine looked like that when we tried it so we went for the next size up as the mare has particularly fleshy lips inside and out and I was worried about pinching. She's much better in the 6 although I do sometimes think there is a bit much 'gold' flashing about :D. If the bit has a central lozenge, which needs to stay central in the horse's mouth, then you don't want too much at the sides allowing for it to slide across the tongue, in which case I'd say yours looks fine.

Looks like a good fit but if you do find it rubbing add bit guards, think the next size up might end up being slightly too big.

if it rubs i would get next size up and add the bit rings, to me if u add the bit rings to this bit it will become to tight as they take u extra room, and extra quarter of an inch will allow room for the bit rings and still give a good fit. it might not rub from size but just because the ringss are loose so move around if she not used to it. other than that looks fine to me

Thank you for your thoughts, I managed to get someone to watch me ride today and they said that when I rode with a contact there was plenty of clearance - panic over!! Thanks again :)
