Am thinking of getting a Neue Schule NS Jumper (the one with the peanut in the middle so sort of french link looking one). Anybody use one? What are they like?

Im basically looking for something to lift my boy. He's always been ridden in a Myler simple snaffle but for show jumping I feel he needs something with a lifting action (but not very severe) because he naturally overbends (he's a part Lusitano - but I am obviously working on this on the flat). Im staying away from Dutch gags which others have recommended as I hate them! Do you think this NS one is a good choice?

Don't know! It's all a mystery to me. My instructor changed Star from a vulcanite pelham to a ns lozenge baucher and that has definately given her more lift. I just need to use a bit of muscle and a lot of seat to hold her on the approach!

So you're an NS fan? Why did you change to the NS one? I don't need a bit because my boy is strong, he isn't - but he does have a habit of dropping behind the contact while Im jumping even though he's an active little horse (so its not like I need more leg etc.).

Probably not of interest but we have one of the NS bits with the butterfly looking sides (bit like a curly pelham) with a peanut type mouthpeice and it was no use whatsoever - might as well have had a snaffle in. However, am realistic enough to know that it might have just been the strong pony we tried it on.

I'd be very careful about the quality, though, as the first one looked like it had been finished by my 9yo rather than a craftsman. Having had my gripe, they did send me another immediately which was much better finished, but at £75 I'd have expected better..

Can't offer any other suggestions, I'm afraid, as everything we ever seem to have needs to slow down rather than imnprove life in front.

I find that she is more comfortable with the lozenge centre as it doesn't pinch like a normal french link.

I tried stacks from Shop4bits on their hire scheme. The ones I have tried were nicely made and finished and a better price than the kk's

the NS jumper bit will only encourage your horse to overbend more as it has a long shanked cheek (the butterfly shaped part) so I don't think it would be your best bet...

try calling Heather from NS on 01642 710627 (9-5 Mon Tues and Thurs) and get advice from her, then borrow it from one of the bit banks and see how you get on before buying....

Hope that helps....
