I am going to order another neue schule- going for the verbindend after the recommendations i got on here.

I have always had a 70mm loose ring but wondered if there was much difference between that and a 55mm? is it just to look neater on a smaller head or does it give a slightly different feel?

I have him in 5" full cheek bits and his current loose ring is 5 1/2" which looks like it fits just about right when he is just stood there after first putting it on but it is has masses of room either side once he has been ridden or you have a good contact and makes my cheekpieces really bag and pull out of place, rather than staying straight down his face.

I have always assumed i would get a 5 1/4" but wondering if that may also be a little big and i should go for a 5"?

Also they do the verbindend in a 12mm or 16mm. I am wondering if the 12mm may be a little too slim for him as he can quite easily split his mouth (not helped by the fact that his current bit is a bit big and puts pressure on the lips) What are your thoughts between the two sizes? I think the french link he is currently in is about a 16mm.

Get a 14mm, a 70mm ring means there will be slightly more movement, I have always had a 70mm. If I still had my verbidend you could have had that, but it went with Goddy. I would go with a 5" if his full cheek fits well.....

I was wondering about just getting the 5" as i don't want to end up with a bit that is still too big...

I have the finer 12mm mouthpiece for my mare as she has a very large fleshy tongue and rather fleshy mouth. She struggles with anything large in her gob. I didn't know the difference really between the rings, I opted for the larger rings myself, hoping that it would make her head appear smaller. It rubbed initially, but now that she's been wearing it, it doesn't seem to bother her any more. But it's a great bit. I would suggest printing off their sizing gizmo to work out the correct size.

My mare uses a 5" in a mullen, but beware. I was told to go up a size when using a Verbindend. However, to get a correct fit, I need a 5.75"........... It can shorten up quite a lot in the mouth.

Ron's a 5" in full cheek NS bits, but a 5.5" in loose rings. He has quite a delicate head but I have the 70mm cheeks and they look fine on him (I think).
