I have read quite a lot about this bit and my mare goes well in it on the snaffle ring for hacking and jumping at home and on the bottom ring for jumping on grass or away from home.

The other day i tried roundings and didn't notice a difference from using just the bottom ring so wondered what exactly is the difference in the action?

Also how much poll pressure would you say is exerted when having the rein on the snaffle ring?

Thanks :)

Neue schule published a paper analysis the poll pressure exerted by several of their bits in the various settings. All I can remember is that the universal with a single bottom rein and no curb was the strongest in terms of poll pressure. If you Google it, you should be able to find the paper.

Thanks! Just read the paper and according to that i think my best option is when using the lower ring to use a curb strap as its just one step up from the snaffle ring and not too strong :)

apparently the same amount of poll pressure is applied with the reins on the snaffle ring and using roundings which has surprised me!
