Yesterday I came home from the local dog rescue centre with a middle aged poodle bitch. She had been brought in as a stray, so they knew nothing about her. I was wondering if my vet would be able to tell if she had been neutered without opening her up. Would any of you know this?
Thanks :)

A vet may be able to tell, although may do an ultrasound

ETA - What a plonka I am, My dogs were spayed before a season, so I almost forgot they have them :o

Is this a trick question? If not, no evidence of scar etc, wait & see if she has a season.

No, genuine question. Was hoping to get her spayed before she comes into season, but wanted to avoid an anaesthetic and surgery for her if not necessary. Think I'll wait until I can get a vet appt to get her checked out. Just hoped somebody could answer my question.

We always advise to wait and see if they come into season under these circumstances; a scar doesn't always mean they've been spayed, hernia repairs and c sections can produce similar scars and I have had lots of bitches whose scars weren't obvious at all.

I have had bitches before too that I knew had been spayed yet was unable to find their scars, so I guess that with this one I will just have to wait and see. Thanks for your post.
