1) Neutering dogs early means they grow bigger then whole dogs-same as horses, the testosterone causes growth plates to fuse more quickly? Is that right?

2) At what age can they be neutered? Both have descended tiny bits, bless them!

my vet recommended neutering at 6 months +, think Mickey was 7mths when i had him done. not heard about the growth thing tho

My vet wont neuter before 6 months but doesnt recommend an age per say as he feels its different for each breed dependant on the size of the dog. I have a large breed and Im going to try and wait till he is about 18 months before neutering. This will depend on how he goes though as any sign of aggression or humping of the children will result in immediate snippies :D

Yes growth plates will stay open longer when neutered before full growth, I personally recommend small to medium breeds to be neutered before a first season and large to giant breeds after a year, unless there are other issues such as problems with dominance and humping:p

Agree with above, anytime from 6 months onwards. The growth plate thing IMO cannot be proven because you cannot have the same animal that is cut and compare it to the same animal that is not cut!!

I see your point but I think it's fairly widely accepted in equine and canine medicine.

I'll check with my vet re correct time for neutering, obviously. I'm a little concerned that Bear has been humping already!
