I have been riding since I was 3 (I'm now 30!) and went all through pony club somehow never going on a childrens meet! I am going to be starting work at a yard where they hunt over the Winter and will finally get the chance to go myself (I've followed on foot many a time) but I'm not sure of all the rules whilst riding. I would really appreciate any help or advice please!! Many thanks

I would recommend two works of fiction:
1. Experiences of an Irish R.M. by Somerville & Ross

2. The Curse of the Wise Woman by E. Dunsany. This is out of print but readily available on the internet. It is not about hunting as such, but it contains the best description that I have ever read of a day's hunting.

I tend to find old books about hunting. You find really useful advise and lots of information about how to act, they tend to be very formal and detailed, but you learn some great tips!

Good luck with your first hunt this winter

The Irish RM books are absolutely great. Haven't read the others recommended but I would add 'Memoirs of a Fox-Hunting Man' by Siegfried Sassoon.
