The other day we were talking to someone about our trainer and they said' I've never heard a bad word about him' I think that's lovely in this world where we love to say 'bad ' about people. We were talking about Gareth Hughes.
I would also say I have never heard a bad word abouy Gary William even though I have never met him.

Who else can you nominate, please don't add bad things even if you have a bad word to say about someone who gets nominated. It is a light hearted thread and I'd just like to hear nice things.

caroline powell now you mention it
a local chap around here has a good reputation in the hunting field and for producing young horses not heard bad word about his riding or management
never heard a bad word about bill levett either and in the article about political trump in horse and hound the ex rider came across as thinking very highly of him

Richard Maxwell, arranged for him to come and solve Bs loading problem and everyone i spoke to about him before hand was really positive.

When he came, had to agree, such a lovely man and not just saying that as he got my horse to load:D He even sat in our brew room chatting to other liveries and answering their questions with the same sort of patience he had shown with B.

I've never heard a bad word about Phoebe Buckley. I always think how genuine and honest she comes across on her videos on her website.

what a great thread.
umm, have to say though, i have heard a bad word about two of the people listed on this thread, unfortunately, although they may not have been true i guess.
i have a rather elephantine memory for stories about riders/trainers being bad to horses, but there are loads who i haven't heard a bad thing about, thank goodness.

Ditto Mary King and Richard Maxwell, quite incredible to get to the top of their professions and retain such good reputations.

Though like Kerilli, I've heard bad things about one of the others on the thread!

im sure it was specificallt mentioned not to say if youve heard bad things this forum just cant help itself can it coincidentally ive either heard good things or nothing at all about all of the riders on this topic

Absolutely, but IIRC if you search on this forum you'll find bad things about several of the people who have appeared on this thread.

Whilst this thread is a lovely idea you will tend to find that those who have discovered a new rider or trainer will find them the best thing since sliced bread and it's only once the honeymoon period wears off that you find out whether you are truly suited or whether the rider can't actually be bothered to do more than lunge your horse once a week and ride it when you come to see it or whether the trainer cancels at the last minute and lets individuals and groups of people down or has only one lesson plan which is trotted out ad infinitum or agrees with you that your horse is sensitive and then proceeds to beat it over a series of jumps way outside it's comfort zone.

That's not to say that most of the people mentioned are not just as good and nice as they seem and are claimed to be.

I don't know very many *names*. However, only one I've had a lesson off that I could say I have never heard a bad word about is Les Smith.

I've heard several 'real life' words that aren't so amazing about people on this thread, but they never disputed how nice and genuine the people were I suppose!

Piggy French, Bill Levett and the Fredericks are the ones who whenever they're mentioned they get massive praise and no "ooh errs". Lots more though :)

David Gatherer :D

Arctic Fox - you clearly have never been in the same lesson as me and heard David and my discussions when he wants me to jump something I don't like:eek::eek:

I must confess to having called him more than the occasional bad word:D

But back to the serious note of the thread - you are right - hence why he's called St Gatherer!!!:p

The dressage world can be SO judgemental, there are few prominent people about whom this could a said -rightly or wrongly. However, two people I'd add to the list are Lee Pearson and Maria Eilberg.

What a nice thread. Dont have much to add apart from to say have never heard anything bad about Mary King.

Carthorse - what a nice thread to start.

So thanks to this post, I've realised it's Sant Gatherer as a nickname, not Street Gatherer as I've been reading all this time. Feeling mildly stupid!

Mary King too!

PM me for details

What a strange post to resurrect this thread from over a year ago. I wonder if there is some alternative agenda.

I think we all need to remember that everyone mentioned on here is a human being and will have good and bad days and also will 'click' with some and not others.

As they say..... one man's poison is another man's cure.
