I am thinking about replacing my 4 year old Kia Sorento 2.5l
I tow an Ifor Williams double trailer.

The new Sorento's engine size has been reduced and I don't think it will do the job now.

Can anyone recommend a new 4x4 for towing that is reliaable and won't cost a fortune?

I would say as long as its still rated to tow enough for your needs see if you can borrow a demo give it a try , engine are getting smaller in a lot of things the landrover defender is now 2.2 v the old 2.5 for instance, are but still as powerfull, personaly unless you can put a purchase through a bussiness to write it off against tax buying new is a very expensive way of smelling new plastic!! you could get say a year old shogun or discovery for around the price of a new Kia remember depriciation is often the biggest cost after fuel of running a car so it may save you money while getting a better car ...

Depends on the weight of what you tow really. When we had the disco, it could tow 3.5 tonnes...

We have an L200 twin-cab Mitzi now, and it's awesome, it cost just over £4,000 secondhand 3 years ago. I drove this down south towing an Ifor 510 yesterday and brought back a pony, over 430 miles in all, and it's fantastic. Thirsty, yes, but wouldn't swap it now. The total weight limit for this is just over 2 and a half tonnes when towing. (2,700kg)

Slightly smaller engine may not mean less power, things like torq and gearing and BHP will play a part, If I remember correctly when I was using Frontera's, the newer 2.2 had more BHP than the old 2.5, I should look into the figures a bit more before deciding, as long as the word Rover doesn't appear anywhere on the badge you should be pretty much ok.
