I got an amigo lite 600 d turnout for my horse 2 years ago. The red one! He wears it nearly year-round as he's a good doer and is fairly hairy. He is quite a ruffian in the field so I have repaired it a couple of times with Stormseal and patches made from an old Masta. But generally it has been a good rug. Sadly when it was really windy last month he pulled a shoe and ripped one of the belly straps off the rug! He must have got his shoe caught as it was ripped right through the cross surcingle which is very strong!
So I got him a new one, exactly the same but a brown colour as that was the surrent colour - must have been last summer's stock as it was in the sale.

Anyway he has had it on about 3 weeks and 2 days ago the tail flap had completely come off and blown away across the field, the stitching had come apart! Today it is torn again but this time along the stitching where it is gathered around where the tail flap should be.

I am very disappointed, I expected better from Horseware, it would have lasted longer than 3 weeks!!!

Anyone else had a problem with this rug? Is it worth trying to return it to the shop or will they tell me to do one?

I have one of these and I think the problem is that the 600 Denier is fairly thin and very rippable! I have a youngster who has also managed to remove the tailflap, has torn large parts of it and generally just trashed it! Has also tried her hardest to wreck her Premier Equine all winter but that is still intact thankfully.

I have given up repairing it with patches and now use black Gaffer tape, she needs a larger one but will go for the 1200 one next time, she looks like an unloved charity case at the moment with her patchwork rug but at least after removing the tailflap it fits her better now (Only joking before I get complaints about cruelty)

I think they are an OK rug for showers and if your horse is not a monster!

If you are sure another horse has not removed the tail flap for you, as we all know how helpful they can be, then contact your local Trading Standards office. The phone number should be listed under your local council's details. They will give you advice and should contact the relevant party for you ( retailer/manufacturer) Good luck

I would take it back to where you bought it- or as you say wait for a reply from Horse wear, TBH its the 600d material thats also the problem its not very robust or water proof, we have the 1200d lw Amigo and rate it very highly, it suvived the torrential rain and major flooding of 2007 and is still going strong although they are more expensive than the 600d they are far far better IMO.

Most of mine have had these rugs on all winter, even serial rug rippers, and I have been very pleased with them, tough, don't move, comfy.

I will say that if the tail flap is caught on something, it is far better that the flap rips off rather than the whole rug getting trashed, it can easily be stitched back on.

My boy has the 1200 LW and also a 600 LW both are thankfully still in one piece , I know that the 600 isn't going to be as tough as the 1200 but sometimes if it's warm you just want the thinest shell , I think it's reasonable to expect the 600 to be sewn together as securely as the 1200 and I think Horseware should replace it , who can afford negative customer feedback in this current economic climate?

Ive bought an amigo mio MW turnout three weeks ago, its now got two rips in it. They are weird, each exactly the same two sides of a square, exactly adjacent 90degree right angled rip. It looks to me like the fabris is weak, the rips have run down and along the grain of the fabric. I was wondering if i should call horseware and complain, because surely this shouldnt happen after a couple of weeks? No doubt they will just turn round and say its wear and tear.....but really 2 weeks!! surely theyre supposed to last longer than that!

Next time i'll buy a more expensive rug, for sure!

I have an amigo mio MW that has been on my mare for the past 3/4 months with no issues not a single rip on it! I will admit they are quite flimsy compared to the actual Amigos so I don't think I will be purshasing another... I just got a LW Amigo today on sale... Hasn't been out the bag yet when I do get it out will let you know how we get on :)

I you have a problem with the rug, do not contact HW direct, you need to take it back to where you bought it from. Your contract of sale is with them and not Horseware. If they wish, they will then contact HW.

Horseware will and do not deal with the public directly.

Won't touch the 600's now they are very flimsy and with youngsters about don't last 5 mins I buy the 1200's which are much tougher though they still do rip if tugged by one of the other brats! But I have found the Amigo ponies are the best fit rugs for weanlings and yearlings, then mine go up to rhino's when I know they will look after them a bit better!!!

I bought my mare a new Amigo lite, she had it on for all of 3 weeks, I went up to the field one day to find her rugless. I thought she had somehow escaped from it, but when I found the rug in the middle of the field I noticed the material strap that holds the front buckles in place had come clean off. I have no idea if it had caught on something (I don't see how) or what it could have caught on otherwise they must have just dropped off. The buckles are still missing.

I've got a 600D and a 1200D lite. The 1200D is fab, really robust and completely waterproof but the 600D has been hopeless. It acts as a sponge and soaks up the rain. Even a light shower is too much for it. On the positive side its still mostly in one piece, but that's probably because it barely ever gets used. Its a shame, I am a real HW fan, but this one isn't their finest effort

I'm on my 2nd Amigo pony lite. My Shetland had also ripped the front buckle clean off. I wouldn't describe him as a rug wrecker, although he sometimes rubs. In all his years of rug wearing he has never ripped buckles off - or even loosened them. I wouldn't have another, but as they fit so well Im kind I'd resigned..... Although will try the 1200 if it comes in 4ft6
