New APPARENT Treatment for Navicular

I wonder if anyone has tried gallium nitrate for navicular problems in their horse and if they have what their opinions are of using this. I can't post a link to the information I was given on it but a google search of either gallium nitrate should bring up the info or 'george eby' the retired scientist who is marketing this. Any opinions on this gratefully received.

I've heard of it. It's not new. It was definitely about 3 years ago when my horse was diagnosed and I was doing research online.

Not heard of it. My old pony had to be pts with djd and navicular syndrome. The advice I had at the time was that this is usually a degenerative disease and therefore only turning the clock back would ever give a true cure.

I'm in a terribly bleak and cynical mood tonight so best to just ignore me.

So far as I'm aware the latest "treatment" is calcium dobelisate, but is only at trial stage. My mare is on 4 month clinical trial and at 2 month mri showed very positive results. I believe it's only suitable for horses with navicular changes and no soft tissue or other issues.

TBH why don't you ask your vet if he will let your horse have Tildren. This has been very effective for my horse who had mild bone spavin, but Tildren is also very good for horses affected with Navicular disease. It is expensive circa. £350-£400 a time and two IV's are recommended for the first year (whether this is really necessary or a clever ploy by vets to extracate as much money from the insurance companies before the 12 month claim is up) I am not sure!! I am delighted with my horses progress and was given the all clear to start competing him again on tuesday after first being diagnosed in Nov 08.

My mare has just been diagosed with Palmar Cortical collapse of the navicular bone and I was wondering if anyone has the details of the clinical trials mentioned in this thread? The MRI shows significant degeneration and we are going to start her on Gallium Nitrate and she is having Tildren this weekend as well. As luck would have it, she has come sound the night before her MRI after 8 weeks of lameness! The surgeon recommended a neuretomy but we are going to try less agressive treatment first as she is still sound and remains so on bute before and after exercise. I'm definitely in the try anything once camp!
