After much research and canvassing of opinion, I bought a pair of Ariat Grasmeres to keep my feet warm and dry this winter. I wanted boots to ride in and look reasonably smart with breeches or jeans.

I wore them the other day for only the third time and the left one is leaking around the top of the toe. I am not happy! Plus, when I told a friend, she said her newish ones are leaking and those of another friend too.

So many people recommend Grasmeres but is it the case that they used to be well made and now they are not?

I will be taking mine back to the shop where I bought them later today and asking for a refund.

So, my question is... are they any truly waterproof, warm, smartish riding/country boots boots? I have Muck Boot Tynes, which are great, but they obviously purely functional and not smart or stylish in any way! ;)

Yours must be faulty. Mine have had 2 years of abuse, trailed all day through long wet grass, walked through puddles and water jumps and never cleaned. They are tatty as hell now, but still waterproof. Give them another chance. :D

I have some of the Ryedale boots which I have just found out leak; though in all fairness I have worn them pretty hard over the last few months. I saw in an earlier thread that the materials some of these companies such as Dubarry and Hunter are using cheaper materials now they know their product will sell hence the drop in the quality and general hardiness of the product. Definitely return your Grasmeres, i wod be very dsappointed in them!x

You must be gutted. I agree with BH, maybe you got a rogue pair. I had a pair for Christmas and they are perfect, especially to ride in. Give them another try.

I assumed they were a rogue pair until I heard about 2 other new pairs leaking.

I will go back to the shop and maybe get them exchanged to give them another chance. they are very comfy!

Hey,
i always had that problem my feet were always cold or wet and i found some harry hall boots in my local scats and i thought i would give them a go as they were half price and i have now had them two years and i live in them. They are brilliant they are a darker brown around the foot and a lighter brown around the leg and they also look nice with jeans and they give you a good ride when on horse back.

I highly recommend them :)

It sounds like they are faulty, mine are great i really love them, nice to ride in too.
Dubarry are really fantastic aswell completely waterproof but i dont ride in them.

Ariat will replace them, Ive had mine for 3 years and have waded through rivers etc in them with still cosy dry feet!

My Le Chameau Jameson have plenty of abuse (I hose the mud of them, probably not supposed to..) and are 100% waterproof, Goretex lined and very warm.

Good to ride in too though prefer 'proper' riding boots that are slimmer for lessons - unless it's really cold then I keep the Jamesons on...

My Grasmeres are over 5 years old and still going strong, no leaks at all. Wear them nearly every day, wade through mud in them and ride, muck out and walk the dogs. You're either unlucky, or they've changed something. What a shame, hope you get it sorted.
