Hi guys,

In the middle of Jan, I will be taking delivery of a two year old thoroughbred. I'm on a limited budget but when the time comes I intend to have her sent away and professionally broken and schooled. Is there anything I can do in the mean time with him to make this process easier and less stressfull both for the horse and for me? Also I would love to try my hand at showing him in hand, any tips?

Thanks.

How much experience do you have handling youngsters etc? If not much could you send him away for 3 or 4 weeks now to be halter and bridle broken and taught to be led (and watch if you are not sure how to do it!) so that you can then confidently show in hand? I know a few people that have done that :)

That sounds like a good idea, I have some experience with youngsters as I worked at a stud when I left school, but it was only as far as leading them to the field, and a bit of lungeing. I was always too busy jumping! However as I won't be riding for a while, I would like to have something to aim for, and horse used to arenas, flags and other horses so when it comes to our first ridden outing, the risk of chaos is minimised! Thanks.
