Previously rode my horse in a myler combination bit for a good 2 years, the best he has ever gone, he seemed relaxed yet confident. schooled nice and long and low on a lovely light rein but able to hold himn back that big extra that i cant in a snaffle when jumping. When i moved yard i had to restock everything ie saddle bridle etc

After 7months, my new myler combi has just arrived and i cant wiat to use it

I have heard mixed reviews on them and worry that people at new yard will think that i am using too strong a bit for my horse but i know he goes well in it, he hates the nutcracker action of a snaffle and other snaffles just arnt quite strong enough as he is a cob type is can be pretty stong nothing nasty though

What are you thoughts on the bit? and how i should go about responding if anyone does say anything to me?

I like myler combinations, as you say, they are versatile and are only as strong as you want them to be. I used to use double reins with my LS.

As to what people say or think, it is really none of their business, the tactful answer of course is:

" "if it ain't broke don't fix it" the bit suits him, so I'll stick with this for now I think"

if it was me I'd bore them into retreat with the

"you have no idea how many bits we tried before we found one that he was happy in, gags blah, blah, blah, hackamores iffy, pelhams wouldn't go forward, waterfords he hated (at this stage their eyes are glazing over hopefully ;)) rubber, vulcanite, plastic, straight, single jointed, double jointed, peanut, mylers, ported and then there were the ........" you are probably talking to fresh air at this stage :D

You can always divert the conversation away from you by asking them what they use on their horses and why :D Or their opinions on flash versus mexicans or grackles, or standing versus running martingales etc, etc, that generally works too.

Of course, someone may come up with a fabulous suggestion, lend you said bit and it really is the right one, so, there is no harm in taking suggestions/opinions/experiences on board, just don't be bullied into anything, maybe no-one will ask anyway ;)

Very much like above answer - I don't you will be too bothered about them asking.

If so might be to extend their knowledge and not to have a go ;-)
