Hey,
My horse chews his bit constantly. After having the dentist out, turns out the bit was to small. So got him a new bit (a french link loose ring) Thought that was the end of my problems. But he still chews throughout the ride. So wondering if to get him another bit. Maybe a different material to stainless steel (rubber?) What do you guys think? Or is him chewing the bit just a bad habit? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

It might be a learned habit. My mare tossed her head due to a tooth problem and it probably took another 6 months for her to realise it wasn’t going to hurt anymore. She still does it now as a stress reaction.

I say it everytime someone has a bit question but I really recommend getting a bit specialist out. You wouldn’t plonk any old saddle on without checking so why do we do the same for bits! Such an important piece of tack.
