So hes finally here! After a heartbreaking couple of weeks with my mare and deciding to put my horse search on hold Jino popped up! 15.3 Welsh D, old fashioned type with a gorgeous head on him!

I wasnt even looking but went to view him with a friend (for her) she got on and he bucked around the field, her being nto that confident she was shaken but there was something about him that i really liked! So i jumped on (as you do) and just fell in love! Normally when viewing a horse it takes me a while to trust them and only do a side of canter and then arrange another viewing but i was cantering laps with ease! I felt so confident its unreal!

You know when you just get on a horse and feel 'this is the one' :o I even jumped 3ft with him which i have never jumped before!

So here we are 1 week later all settled in, him cosy in his rug munching some grass!

So here come the questions;

1)How long do you think i should leave it before giving him a ride?

2)Hes riden in a pelham with one set of reins as he gets VERY strong, should i swap to two? As he could be ridden in a snaffle in the school and going out hacking but on the way home he gets immensely storng and i feel i have no 'upper gear' you could say...

3)How do i convince my parents this bucking strong buldozer really is the horse for me :o :D

So here he is, Jino!

Hope pictures work ...

two reins are always better than one really if you can use em, like you say you can mostly be on your snaffle rein but have your curb just in case :) I would say after a day or so he should be fine to get on and have a little potter around. You convince your parents by schooling him to behave better ;) btw he is lovely!

Thanks for the advise! He seems really chilled bless him, taking it all in his stride. I do plan to work on his behavior haha, think he just gets a bit carried away!

Out of interest, what was it that caused him to buck around the field with your friend, but not with you? Just wondering whether there was a different riding style etc which is causing him to be so sensitive and strong?

Think I won't be able to wait much longer than a few day to hop on! :) Moomin1- He threw a few bucks in with me but didn't really bother me, just ignored them and encouraged him to go more forward and did lots of transitions to make him think. Where as she isn't a confident rider and he knew it worried her so I think he picked up on it and misbehaved more! :)

Ah I see, sounds like playful, cheeky behaviour more than anything sinister then! :)

I got on my mare and walked her about in the field after three days of having her - but that literally is all I did - ten mins of walking.

It really depends on the horse - if he is a calm and chilled out person then go for it!! If he still seems a bit unsettled then perhaps take him out in hand and let him see the immediate surroundings.

Also - does he need a rug? ;-)

Yeah he's not nasty just a bit of cheeky boy!

Taking him for a walk out sounds like a good plan, will let him get his bearings!

Probably not but he's normally stabled overnight plus it was raining felt a bit sorry for the little guy! Probably wondering why he had to trade his warm stable for this haha!

I would start as you mean to go and and get working him. Its good to learn what makes them tick or buck. It could be excitement of someone different ie testing. Just make sure someone is around until you get to know him well.Perhaps some lessons or go out with steady eddy etc. Good luck I hope he turns out to be a gem. Nice looking by the way.
