For those who ride in the Wilmslow area I have just discovered that there is going to be a bridleway on the Carrs. I do not yet know where it starts and finishes but there is a sign at Twinnies Bridge pointing towards Styal. I have put a call out to the Rights of Way at Cheshire East for full details and will post again when I have more info. When I walked it today it looked near to completion

Be interested to know how people are supposed to get to the carrs to ride on the bridleway.....We have bridleways here but lead to a busy road and on the other side, nothing! Is it the same with this bridleway?

I have done some research re this bridleway and now believe it was a devious ploy to get funding to improve the footpath by the river. The footpath had to be re classified to fulfil the criteria to obtain a large grant. However I managed to read the minutes of a meeting of the access committee at Cheshire East and a comment was made it was planned to make it a cul de sac so it was expected riders would not use it. However cyclists would be allowed to use footpaths for access on a discretionary basis.

There is access via a small restricted bye way. However this has recently been tarmaced. Being quite steep slope it is now dangerous. At the other end of the bridleway there is no exit unless riders are allowed the same privilege as cyclists or unless they want to ride on a main road.

I have today written a strong letterto Cheshire East and told them if they do not improve access I will report them to the fundersfor submitting what is a false submission.

Myself and several friends are going to ride it and if necessary lead the horses down the byeway. We intend to make our point

Thats very interesting reading...take care riding it eh?
It is such a shame there aren't as many bridleways as public footpaths in this area, very lacking!

Copy your letter to all the elected councillors for the Wilmslow area and ask them for an explanation about the deception as well.

You are right to go and ride the track, it sounds to be a scandal, your local paper will be interested as well.

Horse riders are now permitted to use the footpath at the end of the bridleway which exits on to Hawthorn Lane. This is on the same concessionary basis as cyclists.

After putting to the Rights of Way that the restricted bye way from the Rugby Club to Twinnies bridge was dangerous for horses due to slippery tarmac this has also been remedied. I rode it today and there is a strip at the side which has had soil put on it and nicely smoothed. I hope this was for the horses and not to plant something Anyway I rode on it and sent a thank you note to Cheshire. Fait accompli?
