I got the BSJA magazine today and there are a couple of interesting things in it. The main one being that for all national classes where 4 DCs qualify for the second round notional prize money will only be graded when a DC is jumped. You still get your actual money, but it won't count unless they have jumped double clear. When do you reckon this kicks in?

I think it is a great idea for true producers. As things stand, if you want to qualify your horse for BN 2nd round, 4 wins would pretty much put you out. Not likely I know, but still nice to know that if you 'miss' your DC in a class with only 5 or 6 starters you won't be penalized if you don't jump clear in the JO

in that sense it is a VERY good idea the amount of producers who purposefully turn circles etc after a pole or retire to stop getting notional money is madness. I hadn't thought of it from that perspective till you said it to be honest. There will be horses though that will simply never progress due to four faultitis I know several who are lucky to jump one double clear a year!!!!!

If you are producing a youngster you will take your 4 DC's at BN and move on to the next level. Let's not forget, the UK is one of the few countries that start youngsters at 90cm anyway. A lot of the others start at 1m, and it wasn't THAT long ago that 1.10m was the intro to BSJA

I think this is a good rule change. It makes sense to only get notional if you jump a double clear and stops you jumping out of your class before you achieve your double clears.
