My family have kindly clubbed together to get me some clippers for christmas

so tomorrow will be my first attempt at clipping a horse EVER! So any hints and tips please, George is very well behaved with the clippers and I will be doing a trace clip so nothing too technical............I hope!

Let's just hope he doesn't look like he's been chewed by moths when I finish

Oil regularly- I oil every 1/4 of a horse generally, or every 10mins (whichever is shorter!)
Keep the blades cool- give them a rest periodically and check the temperature against your hands.
Mark out your lines with chalk. If you havent done lines before then be warend, they arent easy! You may find a chase or a blanket clip easier as a trace has loads of lines and, I think, is probably the hardest clip to get spot on.

ditto the clothes-if possible wear a boiler suit done right up to the chin!
with regards to lines, slightly overlap each stroke/section so you don't get loads of clipper lines

wear your glasses I always end up with short bits in my eyes!

ditto the clothes

be prepared to go home and jump in the shower.

apart from that its quite easy really, I did my first last year.

Oh I meant I was doing a chaser clip, not a trace - I think that would be a disaster! Thankfully the clippers I have got are cordless ones, so one less thing to worry about!

No tips but good luck!
I'm clipping tomorrow as well for the first time in a few years. Unlike George, Boo is a complete sod to clip so I'm having him sedated by the vet, then we'll have to see how much hair I can get off before he comes round enough to work out what I'm doing!
