Now I appreciate this might need to be taken with a pinch of salt as I have no direct proof. This came from Facebook from the horse scams page. They have posted a warning of a man called Dan Cooper. He will ring about a horse, says it is for his gf, then turn up, with lorry ..and no cash. Promises to send out cash but of course does not. He would seem to be focusing on people desperate for a quick sale. He is in the Norwich area and some people have fallen for this. Might seem obvious to us behind a screen not to do this but if someone turns up, seems plausible and you are a trusting person..can see how it would happen.

I can't to be perfectly honest. If you're facing someone in "real life" who wants to take your horse away without paying for it - why would you let them?

Someone really desperate ...particularly coming into winter. As I said I have no proof but if there is any element of truth it's worth posting. I am too trusting and have learnt a lot about scams by reading on this board. I would not hand over a horse with the promise of cash to follow but have appreciated my eyes being opened on other ones.

I would just like to point out that I am Dan's partner thats BF not GF Dan would not do any of things you claim he has done, for one he does not driver so I cannot see him driving a lorry, which he also does not own, to any location and ask for a horse without paying. He is a genuine and has helped scores of horses and riders/owners it is just a shame that the ones that seem incapable of keeping a horse at the same high standard when they have left the yard point the finger at the seller and start all this untrue abuse.

You really all should think about getting a life and stop ruining other peoples.

Just in case you ask I have got lots of evidence and endorsements to back me up!

Is there only one Dan Cooper in the world, then?
If your partner can't drive a lorry, but the person who is taking horses without paying for them is driving the lorry, it obviously isn't him who is being discussed on FB, is it?

Ha ha..wasn't me!! and of course I can post a warning and would do so again. I caveated it but quite frankly, there a lot of people on this board who have been too trusting and have been taken for a ride. Oh and btw, do feel free to argue slander. The description was too vague. If I had stated Mr x, of xxx, and was wrong THAT could be slander!

There is no other dan cooper in the Norwich area that deals with horses. I am just sick and tired of his name being dragged through the mud when the issues have been caused by the buyer not te seller. If there was a genuine problem I would have apologised and explained any remedies put in place but this is not necessary. Thanks for replying though.

Ha ha exactly what I was thinking and yes I now know its old but I still had to reply :D

Dan, genuine question....why would you apologise and explain for Dan?

Just curious

Ho hum...perhaps PM admin next time eh?

Thank you all for displaying exactly the small mindlessness I was referring to. You really do not do yourselves any favours. Why would I (cowardly) ask admin to remove an old thread instead of defending it, well within my rights to do so also. I have decided to do so on my own back and feel that enough is enough if people are incapable of even the basics skills and maintaining a horse after the sale is complete then they should not be handling horses. The other reason is the name and location from the original thread point in my partners direction and I wanted to prove it was factually incorrect. So those of you that will now avoid as a result of this GREAT!! You seem like type that would end up being a nightmare anyway. Good luck in your future fruitless endeavours. :-)

I'm sure your partner is very grateful.:rolleyes3:

I have some sympathy with JM. If I came across a post on a forum that accused my OH of dishonesty, I'd probably be incensed and want to defend him too.
I agree it would have been better to remove the post by asking admin, but then again, if anyone since last year, has googled this guys' name, they could well be directed to this old thread.

The OP should have highlighted the scam and area without naming the person.

Really, you'd be better off having this removed if you think it's about your partner. It's not cowardly, that would be the sensible route to take and I would encourage you to do that. I also agree the OP shouldn't have named names on a vague Facebook rumour.
All you have done here is bring up an old thread so anyone that didn't see it before is seeing it now, and your outburst is not going to do anything to help your partner or yourself. It just looks unprofessional and a bit weird, and you haven't proven anything by it (nothing you were hoping to prove anyway). That thing about no publicity is bad publicity....yeah, don't believe it.
