We rescued a dog last night, hes been chained up outside during those freezing nights, hes a very very nervous dog but is loving the attention that hes been getting since he got here.

Well i need help in giving him a name, hes a 20 month male german shepherd

We didnt get him from a centre, he was tied up in a yard where we go to get shavings for the yard, and we arrived early one morning (rain was belting down) and he was still chained up. Hes v nervous of people as we heard the womans husband is an alcoholic and would beat him when he got drunk. He had no shelter whatsoever and hes got sores on his neck from his collar rubbing.

We had him at the vet today after the dog got a beating infront of us (this is why i lifted him, they didnt protest!!). He was beaten so much that his shoulder was dislocated! and hes lost 6 teeth! Hes such a lovely dog, hes enjoying lying in the heat and eating nice doggie food (was fed dry bread)

Hes a great wee dog, we just need to work on his obedience and he barks aswell

Well he's lovely - poor, poor creature.

For gods sake make sure that you are never in the position of them demanding the animal back - ie. make sure they never see him again.

I think they were relieved to see him go, thing is that they have horses and i dread to think how they are treated!

They have another 3 dogs but they are all kept indoors and well cared for!

This dog is so sweet, my husband thinks I should report them to the local authority, when the man isnt drunk hes very nice but he would lash out at anything when hes had one too many

He's a beauty and well done for saving him....just hope they don't go out and get a replacement. Maybe this is a time when the RSPCA should get involved. If he's been beaten that badly they should be made aware so they can check the horses, but first I would get something written down to the effect that they handed the dog into your care and get them to sign it. Re names, he looks very regal so how about Harry, William or Charles!

If the condition of the dog was a bad as you say then I would get a vets report and contact the RSPCA to report these despicable people. As you are obviously an animal lover I would imagine that you'd want to ensure they don't treat their horses the same way.
People like this should be banned from keeping animal for life.

What a lovely dog!

Call him Clooney then if they want to call him George!!!!

Ditto the rest-contact the rspca to let them know you have taken the dog on-they may have the dog on their list anyway, but also in the near future if anyone sees the dog you can justify that it is yours and give the contact number of the rspca.

Also get the dog microcipped as that is another form of proof that the dog is yours!

Good luck with him-he is gorgeous!

It would be a good idea to contact the RSPCA, BUT they are so useless at getting anything done, honestly we reported a guy who use to shoot at his horses with BB guns and really whack them accross the head with bits of wood, it was awful, the RSPCA said they couldnt just turn up to catch him at it (which they could have done as this happened on a daily basis) they call and arrange a visit, allowing people plenty of time prepare for a visit.
Its really sad as this is the sort of instance when you should call them and what with your vetinary evidence you think they would have a strong case to prosecute, but sadly I doubt they would do anything.
Its great that you had the balls to take him away from a horrible life, what a lucky boy. Maybe you could call him Chance as hes got a second chance!!

He looks like a lovely dog.

Sad story and one which I would want a conclusion to! No way would I be happy to just leave it at the stage it is at. I would be going back down to this man with a typed out Change of Ownership and I would be asking him to sign the dog over to me legally. You have absolutely no standing here if he were ever to ask for the dog back in a year or two years time. You would have, in effect, STOLEN his dog!

Get the ownership sorted out before you relax - if necessary threaten him that if he does not sign the dog over to your ownership then tell him you have a vet's report and you won't hesitate to go to the RSPCA and have him prosecuted.

(Aslan is a fantastic name by the way whomever thought of it!

Please don't leave this dog's future hanging in the balance like this.

What a lovely boy. Considering the awful weather you spotted him in why not call him "Storm" Let us know how you go on with him, and thank god you found each other. "Zuce" or "flash" another couple of suggestions that popped into my head
