Meh. If he'd crossed a bit further north its a lot easier. However its a lovely criollo he is riding and the scenery makes me miss the Andes so much.

Sorry just resent films making out someone is doing some amazing thing when the locals do it all the time moving cattle (or in the 80s smuggling people out of dictatorships / other stuff across the boarders).

We used to hack to some lakes on the Arg border from Santiago in the summer as a kid, as a yard outing.
It was a 2-3 day ride there and back or 2-3 days down the otherside to Arg. Plenty of water and grazing for the horses so you just had to carry food & bedding on mules.
