Are they actually going to bring them down with the dogs?
Or just get them to stand at bay and then shoot them?
Personally I think I'd have an ethical problem if the field is mounted. It just seems plain wrong to use horses to hunt ponies.
If it was a foot pack then it might be a different matter.
It's a neat way to get round the law though as strictly speaking new forest ponies wouldn't count as a wild mammal.
I'm not sure my misses will be going as she rides a New Forest Pony. There could be a serious conflict of interest. As I'm on a cob at the moment I will give it some thought.
you couldnt do it, because all forresters belong to commoners, so you would actually be killing someones animal, they chose to take them on and off the forest etc and thats the point of sales like beuliea, to keep the numbers even.
This thread is not true at all by the way. The NF is not over populated like it used to be, there is a strict breeding program which has been working really well for a few years now.,
Sorry but if this were true, what sort of dog wouldbe able to bring down a pony? A wolf? This is a complete load of c***! Plus all mammels, apart from the select few are part of the whole hunting act, so this would be against the law, unless of course they flushed out ponies to the guns!
I'd have a couple if they were going free, as would most of the horse owning population I'm sure so can't see why on earth there would ever be a cull.
Are you not getting confused with the article about the Australian Brumbies being shot by helicopter?
I've bought 2 foalies from the Beaulea (sp?) Sales, they were gorgeous and are now strapping Riding Ponies loved by their respective kiddies (and missed by me!)
