I know (hope) I'm preaching to the converted here but this is (was) my friend's yearling . . . if you look closely at the photgraph, the red spot on the top back leg is where her hoof was severed from her leg . . . I do so hope they get the ****** "person" who did it

Tragic waste of another pony.

Sadly, where I live, it is the locals who drive too fast and with no consideration to the animals - they seem to have the attitude that they know the roads, but they forget they dont know what is in the road round the next bend!!!!

We get a lot of holiday makers who are obviously interested in slowing down to look at the ponies, donkeys etc, and they show them much more consideration for their "right" to the road too.

I love the New Forest, with the ponies wandering around free, but surely it would be far safer for all concerned if fences were put along the roadsides? More like fencing in the roads than the ponies - just to prevent these kinds of horrible accidents. It would be expensive, but no more so than the cost of investigating these crimes and certainly worth it to stop ponies being killed so horribly.
