I kicked the four Foxhound pups back to the Hunt on Thursday!
I miss them like a sick headache but they have left a hole in my heart.
I was pleased with the way they were looking, exactly 6 months old, when they arrived they were stunted as their mother was short on milk and not the best of mothers.
Silly pups had taken to doing what most Foxhound pups do - go wandering for four hours at a time.
Whilst they were here they have dug a ruddy great hole in the concrete of the kennel run, dug numerous holes in the lawns, enlarged a hole going into a big lime tree - it is now big enough to contain a GSD, four well grown hounds, three terriers and a Border Collie with not a tail to be sighted. (There was a mink in there which is no more)
Did you know that a hound pup can eat over 24 eggs, shells and all and have no side effects? You do now.
I have had to launder two washing loads three times before I gave up drying outside and shoved it in the dryer.
I am missing three slippers and two left leather shoes.
A hound can sing non stop for 95 minutes.
Three hounds trying to jump up at you makes you move backwards whereby the fourth is standing behind you to tip you over. Once over four hounds hurt with pummelling feet and tongues make you feel you have been in the shower.
Four pups all with such different characters. Harold was food aggressive in that he would take the chunks of meat away from two others and stand over it not allowing them to eat. Handful lived up to her name and was the leader of mischief and thieving. She would stand up to Harold and not loose her meat to him. Hatpin, the sweetest, very pretty and much smaller than the others but the sharpest. When I fed them in the kennel she would grab hers and dive outside to eat hers. Hardcore was anything but. Bit of a wimp and could scream if he thought he was going to be hurt. Even a friends Chihuahua could chase him off!
So, I alled the kennels and as the kennelman was passing he collected them within 30 minutes. I had not fed them their breakfast so left it for the other dogs later. It was enough to feed all bar two of the smaller dogs so, they were getting over half of all the meat I was collecting as I fed them twice a day.
Only been gone two days and I have so much more time, I am not forever calling out "Come, Come, Come, pup, pup pup!" I do not have to keep my door shut, do not have to go out into the field to pick up stolen loot. Do not have to keep filling in the kennel run, clear up after them, keep treats in my pockets to encourage them not to wander. I can put a bucket down or grooming kit, and know it will be there when I return. The horses rugs stay on the racks instead of being dragged off and out of the barn. Shoes and boots will stay in the tackroom. I can clip the horses without worrying about the pups chewing the wire. No more egg thieving. No more muddy paw prints over the cars.
Life is a lot easier so, why do I miss them so much?
