HI everyone,
im new to this forum stuff so i apologise if this is wierd!!

i was wondering if anybody could possibly help me:
heres the deal:
My name is Becca and I'm 18 yrs old and at brackenhurst , notts, studying the national diploma in horse management (yr 1) and i have to carry out a period of work experience over my summer holidays, May - October.

i would ideally like to go to an eventing yard but am finding it hard to be able to contact people.

would anyone possibly be able to help me get in touch with potential work experience placements.

i hope all of the above made sense

Welcome to the forum.
I can give you advice, but I'm not going to do it for you...

Step 1 - Go to your college library and ask them for the British Equine Directory
Step 2 - Go to the section for event riders, and photocopy the addresses within the area that you want to work in. Aim for a list of about 10.
Step 3 - Draft a letter to the yards, saying 'Dear Mr X, I am a National Diploma in Horse Management student just completing my first year at Brackenhurst. For a module called 'Industry Experience' I must undertake x hrs or x weeks (depends on your college) of work placement in the industry, and would very much like to work for you.'
Continue the letter to say what experience you have - own horse, mucking out, turning out, any BHS exams, etc, and what you hope to learn.
Thank them politely for their time in reading the letter, and express your hope that they will reply to you.
Step 4 - wait for replies.
Hope this helps you. The last student I know who did this ended up with a choice of yards and then helped organise placements for her friends. She now works running a very prestigious event, incidentally!
