new horse - advice needed

I have just purchased a cob and have had him just over 24 hours now. How long would you advise leaving him to settle in before riding him? He does seem a little unsettled at the moment as he doesn't have another horse for company which he isn't used to although there are sheep here. I am turning him out all day and bringing him in at night.
 
when i brought my cob home i rode the next day, but at my stables they have to be in for 5day worming, so I rode to stop her going loopy in her box!! Hope everything goes ok with your new horse

start off how you mean to go on
a horse likes rountine -- and works better and will settle in better if you put him to work

there is no difference- form going to a show or event
the horse has arrived and to help him settle in work him
keep the rountine up
so many people make the mistake of keeping him in or not working
thats ok if on a yard and worming programme in state or following barn rules but i take this at home

so -- work him-- even if he was on a yard and in i would work him
 
when i got my horse i left him about a couple days however when his companion died i took him out of the field while she was being buried and he went absoultly bonkers nearly bloody killed me. he was really unsettled and i left him a week before trying to take him out again but i spent alot of time with him in the field during that week just grooming etc

if you ride him just dont ride him on your own first the first time.. also spend lots of time with him, not just riding but stroking grooming and generally getting to know him, sit and watch him in the field (ok maybe not in this weather!) but you get the idea, i did with my mare and it made such a difference... good luck!
 
I hopped on to mine the day I got her, just for a walk around....couldn't resist...

it won't do any harm, and if anything it'll help him settle in quicker, IMO.

When I got Baron I left him for a day, lunged for 2 days then rode.

To be perfectly honest though I could have ridden the first day. Try lunging tomorrow just incase, if he seems settled then get on.
 
When I got George I waited two days, but on those two days I took him for in-hand walks round the yard so he knew his way round and did some groundwork in the school. Besides I didn't have time to ride I was too busy gazing at him and pinching myself saying 'he's mine'!!!
