recently bought a new horse, whats the best way to get him comfortable with me touching his legs and feet. he absolutely hates it and jumps everytime, ive looked around at how other trained (like using rope to pick up) i dont think i would want to do that just incase of serious injury.

Stuff a ruber glove and attatch it to a stick / brush shaft.. This allows you to touch his legs without your face / head being within the danger zone! Patience, and consistancey and youll be fine

and I would add, you must finish the lesson when the horse allows you to touch him and you release the pressure, not when he kicks the padded hand off.

I use a wooden walking stick with the padded glove on the handle.

You also need to be able to hang on when you or the farrier pick the feet up. Young horses soon learn they can snatch feet away. It should be a crucial part of foal handling, but more often than not it isn't.
