And I have the Flu!!

I can't even muster up the strength to be excited, and I have been waiting for ages for this.
Sod's law really!

Pointless post really just a bit of self pitying!

Oh dear - and I always think that you have to be a bit ahead of the game to welcome the new horse - as it can be so challenging.......issues that I have encountered in the past include
1. Will it arrive in one piece? I have taken delivery of horses that were a picture of loveliness in their previous environment - but emerge from a horse transporter as a sweat laden, maddened creature......
2. Will it like its stable - this is where one discovers that the horse, has never actually been in a stable before, and actually suffers from an extreme form of claustriphobia (see 1 above)
3. Can you turn it out with other horses - or is it an Alpha Male / Mare, bitch from Hell, or just a RIG (I have had all three - fun, fun, fun!)
4. Having turned it out - can you catch it again?
5. Then you have to ride it - good luck!!! Please do assume that when you went to try it it had either been lunged and ridden for 3 hours prior to you seeing it - or had been doped.
6. Does it look anything like the horse you thought you had bought - there may have been a cunning swap in the interim
7. Has it come with its passport - and if so, does that bare any relevance to the horse you thought you had purchased?
8. Bought its tack and rugs as part of the deal? You may notice that the equipment it arrives with is not maybe to the standard that it had on when you tried it out? That lovely £800 close contact saddle - now turns out to be a £50 synthetic thing with a string girth and plastic stirrup leathers - The wonderful all encompassing NZ rug with full neck et al - becomes those dreadful green army surplus garments of circa 1970 - and the bridle is the ever expanding Indian leather type with a nickle snaffle bit - green in colour........

Sorry - just realised that you have gone into relapse - I am sure that all will be well when the shiny new beast steps into your yard tomorrow! Best of luck, and hope you feel better soon - but best ride new beast ASAP to test the warranty that I am sure you have negotiated!

Had him 5 stage vetted on thurs and he passed with flying colours, also have ridden him etc so fingers crossed he is the same lovely horse I viewed!

Was hoping to ride him Sunday but will have to wait and see how I feel, no point in getting on if I don't have the strength to sit out any naughtiness.

Goodness me FW - how brave - what were you buying?

3 kids ponies. 2 from Wales, a 13.1 and an unbacked welsh sec A. Saw only photos of those two but did ask the transporter to phone me if he thought there was a problem. Last one to be completely honest I went with the trailer to get and he was free (a Shetland) so I could have said no thanks, however all three exceeded my expectations are fantastic child's ponies/exactly as described.

I've done better buying unseen than I have seen :o:D

(They were cheap and I was willing to sell if not what I wanted, plus worth three times what I paid, now they are up here).

You really are a woman after my own heart and have done similar myself over the years with cheap ponies and horses - I once had three ponies deliviered in to the farm (not seen) and they were desparate (but cheap) but all went on to be fine ponies, including the one I was told was circa 12 years and turned out to be circa 40 years (my young boys at the time had the best 6 months loving him, and gaining confidence with ponies, before he dropped dead one morning (that also taught them a valuable lesson)
I am of the school of buying related to experience / trust of the people who are selling to me (ish) ponies (unseen) and instinct - but I am guessing we are in a minority these days?

Ponies seem less of a risk than horses but I have perhaps just been lucky.

Ffion, the palomino in my sig, I decided to buy based on three photos in the advert, one was the rider sitting on her bareback and bridless, one she was lying on the ground beside the pony who was standing (she had not fallen off honest) and the third was her free schooling over an invisible jump. I saw her and thought, that is the pony I wanted all my childhood. Couldn't get a hold of the seller for 2 days and thought she must be sold (and I tried incessantly). Finally got her and said, I'd like to buy that pony please, no haggling or anything just said I'd buy her and I did. She came off the lorry like she had lived here all her life, she is just lovely.

It's probably not a good idea folks, don't try this at home :D
