With a new horse would it be more sensible to hack out in company for a while to adjust the horse to it's new surroundings or do you think it should just get on with it if it's mainly going to be ridden alone anyway? After all, when horses go on pleasure rides or are trailered up to be taken out somewhere new they don't have time to settle in then, if you see what I mean. What do you think?

if it was me i'd go out with someone else, just to be on the safe side, then take him out on his own. alternate going out on his own and with company if you can xx

Sounds like a good idea. Trouble with me is that I tend to jump in at the deep end and then scare myself! I'm not a very confident rider with new horses anyway until I get to know them, so I think I shall take your advice.

I have to say I am rather naughty and make them go out around the block (15mins) on there own but I always have someone on foot the first few times. Then I will venture a bit further with hardly any road work and then probably go out with another horse on busier roads in case they need guarding from traffic etc

Difference being that you don't know him and he doesn't know you OR the area. I would go out a few times with others - perhaps with a different horse each time?

I'd agree, especially if your not too confident, going out with someone else may help him to settle, also you can assess his way, i.e has he a tendancy to nap or kick out etc??? It is a good way to get him to explore etc, but with the added bonus of company

Good point - I won't rush things and will go out in company for a while. With a new yard and owner I suppose the last thing he needs is me sending any nervous vibes to him, even though he seems very chilled out already.
