Sorry no pics at the moment, will update with some tomorrow, She is called bracken and 14.1 n a bit 5 year old newfie mare. been on forest all her life and she is sooo suprisingly well mannered (although very nervy! and underweight)

Like i did today :-) if you've a bucket of feed, she will approach you and i gently slide hand down neck and clip lead rope on. I caught her 3 seperate times today within minutes and i groomed her, she was abit jumpy, not sure if it was the sensation of brush or if it was to tickly or something, but she soon relaxed, although i couldnt pick her back feet up, or brush tail as she got nervy if she couldnt see me, and i tied her long so she could move around to :-)

I have a forest bred 3 yo. He's such a softy & so laid back. Nothing bothers him admittedly he was off the forest by the time he was 6 months but i think the calm nature will stay with him for ever. My older pony ( his dam was the baby's G-dam) was stud bred & can be a loon & panic if he faces something new. I think what a foal experiences on the forest with Mum sets them up for the future.

my first 'Backing' Project was a little unhandled straight off the forest pony.
I was 13ish (obviously I was more helping mum than doing it myself!)

Her name was somehting Cresta - we called her Seal.
She was beautiful and such a Lady - so well mannered and easily took to everything!

Have fun! :D

I have a Moorbridge 2 year old.....he is a x, but was bred on the forest with a NF mum and a colured cob dad.

I would get a worm count done asap on her and get her wormed, mine had a worm count of 8000:eek::eek::eek:
The vet told me to sit down before she told me, the highest she had ever seen. The next day after worming you could see them in his pooh all dead, that is how bad he was, i'd imagine that is why yours is a little under weight.
Luckly, being young they didn't do any lasting damage.

I'm sure you'll do this anyway.

Solar was really shy when we got him, but in ten weeks he has come on extremely well, you wouldn't even know now, he is super confident and happy.

She looks like a lovely little mare, some rewarding times to come i'm sure.

Yes, what is her prefix, My daughters registered New Forest gelding was called
Monkshorn Sir Henry otherwise known as Henry the tank!

I had a Monkshorn mare.:)

Agree with everyone else about worming. You may need to do several doses 2 weeks apart to clear her if she is wormy. We only ever had one off the forest who was really bad (think scarlet poo!)and it did do lasting damage. But he was a 2 year old. The others werent so bad but still wormy.

Good luck with her. :)

A good New Forest pony will do ALMOST ANYTHING for food...

My forest run 3 yo filly with her No 1 fan (my husband, who would have nothing to do with the ponies till she came along) after being wormed and new collar put on yesterday. We have been looking for her for a while now, and thank goodness, finally tracked her down yesterday. Note the traumatised look in her eyes LOL, its amazing what a bucket of pony nuts shared with ones friends can cure...

She is lovely - hope you have lots of fun with her. Agree with getting her wormed - if you can without upseting her too much. I would say that she doesnt look that underweight from her piccy. Most of the newfies I know are rather too well covered.

She doesnt look under weight as she has recently weaned her foal so still a bit baby belly ish! but up close, you can see her spine and shoulder blades etc, but the belly makes her look normal at a difference!
