Insured the bonkers cart horse last night and putting his details into the various insurers I came across a new company. Not sure if I am allowed to name it but it is doing a lot of advertising using cartoon animals on TV at the moment and covers cats dogs and horses.

The quote was the cheapest of the lot by far ( I only want minimal value but full vet cover) on reading through the policy documents prior to buying it I noticed the list of exclusions is a little worrying.

Even though I had taken the 5K vet cover, the company insist you contact them prior to treatment if the bill is likely to exceed 2.5k. Not great on a Saturday night with a colic needing admittance.

There is no cover for dental or gum problems. Which made me thing of Buzz and the horror his owner is going through at the moment.

There were several other bits and pieces that I didn't like and pressed delete at that point.

They are a new company and I wish them success but for any of you looking at using them just have a read of the terms and conditions to ensure it is the right company for your horse.

As someone who worked in pet and horse insurance, can I say thankyou and well done for reading t&c's before signing up (and no, I'm not trying to be patronising, more people should do this!)

I don't work for 'em but if anyone needs a good insurer then try Stoneways. No one seems to have heard of them but they are da bomb!

I literally have no idea who you are talking about AA. Off to have a look

I don't insure but it seems to me that if you are going to expense and giving up control of your desisions to extent that you do with insurance you should pick a good company offering as full a cover as possible.
