my new pony has gone from bad to worse he picked our foal up by her neck and really upset her we put them in diffrent feilds but he keeps going at her he jumped up a very steep bank with me and started falling back then bolted in traffic, keeps bolting in school ect, hes pure evil at the moment, my dad come to vist him and he went full charge at him. hes gone from cute and fat to evil and fit. be sad to see him go only had him 3 weeks but hes getting dangerous, think hes found i have weekness on my left side and using to his advange.

pointless post really but upset about it

Sorry to hear that but 3 weeks isn't a long time for him to settle and it's unlikely he's gone from fat to fit and cute to evil in just 3 weeks! How old is he?

Disagree! The horse I loaned hadn't really been ridden for 6 months - within 2 months he was ALOT fitter and alot more arrogant - we just didn't click after that although i gave it 6 months.

If you're not happy it's really not worth prolonging both of your agony!

he is 14 i no 3 weeks isnt long but i had a very bad head injury 2 years ago and got told i should avoid fall from a horse again for 5 years and just ride quiet horses (yea right!) belive me every one is shocked how fit he has got! didnt no he was ridden once a wk if that and feild kept 24/7 before i had him now riden 5 days a week and lunged 6 days a week, not going to get another horse for a while had to much hurt last few mths with 3 year being pts and this

This horse is also exhibiting some pretty dangerous and aggressive behaviour, both towards other animals and humans. It doesn't seem to be the usual settling in cheekiness, which is understandable and usually reasonably easy to nip in the bud.

When they start bolting in traffic and going for people, it's time to get rid.

We had one exactly the same, no reason for him to be like it as he'd never been treated badly. Final straw came when he charged at my little sister (then 4) for no reason & tossed her up in the air.... He was a Shetland cross. Next morning he was on the lorry & back to where he came from.

It was one long battle with him. He pinned my one brother against the stable wall with his teeth. Kicked out at my one other sister (both experienced with horses & at that time, they were 11 & 14)
Bolted with my sister, a constant bucker, rearing, biting. Everything.

A handful of times he'd be really quiet but 99% of the time he was a demon pony & the risk & danger of being around him was too great. When they are like that it is best to get rid.

Believe me, you are doing the right thing. It isn't worth the hassle, heartache & worry.

(((((((((hugs))))))))))

i thought you had your accident at least 3 years ago (2005) before you had and then returned Holly????

Im sorry you have had a bad time with new ponio. Can you tell us about his routine, who he is out with, is he stabled, what are you feeding him? After having such a bad accident it must be difficult as confidence can be lost so easily.

Can you tell us why the pony is being lunged so much? Just a general question really as he is being ridden most days.

Do you know what has happened to him? Horses arn't normally born evil. What is his history? I have been around horses for 40 odd years and always try to get to the bottom of bad behaviour.

oh??

thought your head injury occured before Holly came to you in autumn 2005.....??

and she was returned Jan 2006.....

he is fed and turned out at 8am he has the little shetland for company and 2 sheep, he stays out untill 7pm he is then put in to the yard with the stable door open so he can walk in and out. he is feed pasture mix and happy happy hoof hand full of each. if he is not lunged he goes nuts and bombs at me and at the gate in his feild so the only was to calm him is for him to be worked and i lunge him before i ride, dont have any history just he was a lead rein pony.

Is this the pony you said that you were getting from a sanctuary (on the travel post). Apologies if I'm wrong. Maybe they would know more on his history?

Could be worth blood tests to check if he's a rig. Attacking the youngster seems odd, though if he isn't used to another pony being led from him he may have found this upsetting.

Best wishes, he's a lovely looking boy.

Sorry I didn't know that - not worth taking any risks then. I think you are right to send him back. Fingers crossed you find a genuine pony when you are ready again and that he finds a suitable home.

he has been led from before wouldnt take the risk if not! daft question if he was a rig would this explain y he feels the need to display him self to evry thing cars (dont ask) pople horses ect he will trot on toes with tail real high then squeals and backs to wards to with tail high again

Poor u

I dont blame u for sending him back - ur health and safety is more important and he can always be found a more suitable home.

covers this subject a bit.

Basically being a rig could result stallion like behaviour or even very agressive type stallion behaviour if hormone levels produced are very high.

I'd suspect that this pony may have a history of behavioural problems for such a nice coloured pony to end up with a sanctuary, and for a pony his size to only be ridden on a lead rein.

If he was a lead rein pony, may I ask what you intend to do with him? I assume your not tiny enough to get away with riding him unless he's a project?

If you can send him back then personally I would. As you've said, you cant afford to have any injuries etc. and from your new post about getting kicked in the head, well Im afraid that should do it! If I were you, Id get something you know the background of so you can have some fun.
