Long story short, this boy is my loan horses half brother. Owner said he needed a new home and it just happens my boys owner would like him back now but was happy to wait for me to get something suitable for my colt. As i already knew him and love his brother it was just perfect! The big bonus is that he is a lot larger than his brother, and already green broke to drive! Not done it in a few years, but i generally find it comes back fast.

So meet Elvis :D

Him and the colt have met over the stable and seem to be a good match so far - both playful. Hes much larger than the colt, so i hope he isn't too rough on him cause he doesn't really need manners put in him he just wants a play buddy.

Can't wait to give him a makeover though, that mane is gorgeous for a shetland but not quite befitting a miniature horse lol

I hope we do. He has showed well in the past, so knows the circut which is a bonus for getting out driving too. He always beat his brother too, who when i showed him always took firsts/champs/res champs.

His passport says he is actually smokey black, so thats something a little different for me. If he bleaches in sun i can just say its natural lol needs a bit more weight off and a work programme.

Goodness no I’d be lynched lol I’m gonna thin it out a fair bit and take it up a little. next year it will be clipped into a show clip so that will help but no point doing that going into winter.

Fair enough. I can't see a mane without getting itchy fingers for the mane comb. :)

Thanks all. He seems really sweet. Ive let him and colt in the same area for a few mins and there was nothing - like not even sniffing. Just walking around like they have always been together. Very promising. The big tell will be when they are in a larger area and the colt starts his play lol so no big decisons until that happens. He can go to his brothers owners house instead of the brother if they really dont get along.

He seems a good fit. The colt tested him fairly well this morning but he was patient, gentle but also playful. Colts now following him round like a pet lamb and trying to eat the same blade of grass as him, using his bum as a head rest where possible.

Think the colt likes him better than the other gelding. he is MUCH more fun to him. Thankfully i know enough about behaviour not to worry about rough play (i know several friends who would have separated elvis already thinking they don't get along) but have to admit my heart is still in my mouth some times. Not had much time to bond with him yet cause its been mega busy but hes quite bonded to the colt now and isn't keen to let him out of sight for a second which ill have to address if i ever plan to take both to a show. He needs to learnt to like his own company.

With it going so well, my other loan gelding Thriller went back home to his little owner. Can't wait to see them out next year in young handlers! Thankfully there is still the agreement that if things don't work out with Elvis, he can be swapped and Thriller can come back - or should colt not want anyone at all elvis can join Thriller there too.

This mornings antics (enough to make anyones heart stop if they were not being playful and stopping to graze all the time. Colt is good at knowing when enough is enough);
