But I knew that already of course! Week 3 with the new horse, will try and attach a piccie to the end of this if I am not too much of a numpty.

So, a little update if you're interested. 6yo mare, bought via HHO in fact. Had her on trial for 4 weeks and collected her I think 3 weeks ago - time has flown! I have been taking it slow mainly cos I didn't have a saddle and I had also arranged a Mary Wanless weekend away with my other horse, so Tinky has been having an easy time of it.

She's settled in really well, has made some friends (although the usual new herd politics means she has come in with a few minor scratches, hmm). She has a really sweet nature, loves people and horses and is cuddly, unlike my other boy who is v independant and self contained. I've been getting to know her on the ground, done some lunging, light schooling and hacking. All going well - so far anyway. I'm kinda waiting for that moment(s??) when she tests the boundaries but I've got lots of help on the yard and am trying to be sensible!

Only thing so far is she's fidgety to mount and do the girth up - been following some useful threads on here for that. I've also now learnt not to leave anything breakable near her cos she'll either chew it, chuck it around or stand in it

Next week, I have equine massage, teeth check and saddler making a return visit for the 'special needs' pony - of course.

First lesson booked in this weekend. Although I'm starting slowly, in 3 months we need to be ready for hunting so I need to crack on !

Love her :) beautiful :) i reckon the first year of ownership with a new horse always breaks the bank. Just when you think you are done they will NEED another rug or something ;)

I know! Because I now have two and on full livery I am trying very hard to NOT break the bank. So I'm leaving the colour padded bridle for now but only cos it's week 3. And pay day is coming up soon

I sometimes just stand over the stable door oggling at her ! My gelding is a fab little thing but not really a looker, bless him!

SKW - small world!

So pleased all is still going well for you! I've also had the mounting issue, I think it's just because everyone has a slightly different routine and probably gives slightly different instructions so there's a bit of confusion on their part as well as the respect building process. We've reached the point where as long as there is a fence stopping him swinging away from me, he will stand and wait for a minute after I've got on.

Hope your lesson goes well! :) x
