Quick background- I had a new horse and had 2 bad falls in the 3 times i rode it, lost confidence "slightly"- sent it back. Was given/loan the horse i was employed to look after. Know it like the back of my hand 100% confidence with him but he has lameness issues and will only ever hack quietly, however if the weather is awful or i am offered extra work etc and cant ride for a few days no matter- its all very laid back.
Have the option of 2 others that i could do a bit more with but obviously will both require more commitment, I dont know which to choose or if i should stick with what i have and resign myself to plodding?! Have a daughter aged 11 who want to be accompanied on fun rides etc.
Horse 1- is at the yard i work on so i know him well although i dont ride him- he's 12 a racer on his last season. He has a fab temp, easy to handle, Has hacked but not regularly. good doer (always looks fat on TV compared to the others!!) can get slightly on his toes but never bucks/rears etc more than happy to go off the yard alone...However not done anything really, only ridden in a race saddle, will be starting from scratch with an unknown in a way....free
Horse 2- I rode a good few times last year when my horse was injured and loved it I felt really secure and as if i'd try anything with him! I asked the owner to bear me in mind if he was ever for sale, He is now! 13 but retired from racing 2 years ago (not due to injury)Hacks out 100% quiet and safe to ride, done some show jumping and dressage at a low level no vices, hang ups about anything - cheap sale (not sure how much to expect here!?)
Both horses are good to catch, clip box shoe traffic etc (well no 1 hasnt been through "town traffic" but ok on quiet roads)
What do you think? I'm very confident with a horse i know so either will be fine, I guess its almost like i'm paying for the 2 years of normality no 2 has been given by someone else!
Horse 1 I absolutely love but will need a holiday first aswell (altho thats not a problem really)
2- Is ready to go

Opinions please!

I wouldn't go for the one that won't be able to do anything, the more your confidence grows the more you will want to do

No 1 is really an unknown as far as normal riding goes

I would go for number 2

you already know him quite well and he has made the transition to riding horse

Soulfull- I already have the one that cant do much! He's my baby and will stay with me as long as he can, be this forever or the next 6 months, I dont really mind as I have rented a field so it wont cost me more in livery also even if the owner ever wants him back it will be mostly me that looks after and rides him. I am happy to hack him 3/4 times a week and keep him ticking over- he's also handy to lead my daughters pony off in winter when she's at school.
I too am leaning to horse 2- its just i'd all but forgotten about him until 2 days ago when i took the call off his owner! whereas i've been planning having horse 1 for some time now! It will feel like giving him up even tho he's not mine yet!
Although i do feel horse 1 has maybe more potential than i need which could be a waste.

What sort of money do you think would be reasonable for no 2?

Going to visit both this weekend (well will be at work with no1!) and refresh my mind on 2.
will go from there...fingers crossed its an easy choice- me and decisions are never good!
