Got nice horse on trial - here is advert text:

Lolly is a charming 15.1hh chestnut roan,12 year old Dutch Warmblood gelding who can turn his hoof at most things.
He has an excellent record from Holland, and has been well-placed over here in un-affiliated dressage, show jumping and eventing.
He easily is working at Elementary level dressage, jumps around a 1m05 course of show jumps carefully and speedily (often winning), and will pop around Novice BE Event courses.
He is equally at home giving confidence to less experienced riders around smaller competitions.
Recently borrowed for Senior Pony Club Camp where he was in the top group with a show-jumping jockey, who happily rode him amongst a group of Open Team riders.
He is to be used as the horse for PC 'B' Test candidates.
Only for sale as no jockey.
Away 30th Aug to 8th Sept. £7,500 to a loving 5 * home only.

GOOD POINTS:
•Fab dressage, very easy outline and trainer says it's all there
•Great jumper, could be rounder but always tries and not had one down or stopped or run out as yet
•Lovely nature, sweet and easy to handle

BAD POINTS:
•Funny neigh, apparently it sounds as if he's had a Hodbay (no idea if that's what it's called) windpipe operation - could this point to wind/stamina issues
•Napped at a little wooden footbridge on a hack and had to be led over (by me on ground or friend on other horse) and at puddle on trainer's yard

So, what do you lot think? I want to do BE on him, at 90 and 100 cms. I just hope the napping won't be an issue.

7500 for a 12 year old... thats alot lol although he has done quite alot and seems like a good horse to have. And with the napping im sure a few good sessions getting him used to the puddles and bridges and no molycodling (sp) im sure he'l be fine. and sorry cant answer anything about the op as dont know what it invloves lol

I think overpriced too and I would be worried about the napping with regards to XC (having a nappy pone that is difficult to get to start)

Thanks for help. The owner is clearly desperate to sell - he's completely unfit and she's made up some garbage about someone who definitely wants to ship it to India unless we buy it by next week (What idiot would pay to ship an expensive twelve year old to INDIA??) and so may come down a few notches on price.

I agree, £5k and I would bite their arm off...

The description in the advert is that of a horse currently working at elementary level and winning out show jumping. It also states that he has recently been borrowed for pony club camp, yet you say in your second post that he's completely unfit?

I think you should be asking questions about his recent competition record, why he is unfit (sorry, but "no jockey" doesn't cut it), and if you are still interested, see what your vet thinks about your worries over his wind.

If he is sound you should be looking at around 4K.

The owner's excuse:

I bought him for my daughter and she advanced on him so quickly she needed a new horse. But we didn't want to sell him as he was so nice. He is the horse everyone borrows and asks to ride if they can't ride their own. Now we need to free up his stable for a new horse.

Or something like that. She's cheekily unloaded all her old crappy tack and rugs onto us - and she wants us to BUY them. He's a big 15.2hh, and she's given us a titchy Cuddly Ponies brand rug!

Something about that quote sounded alarm bells

How long have they owned him? How tall is the daughter?

I'd also turn down anything crappy and old and say you'll buy your own- chances are they will give it to you anyway

I actually went against the general view and voted Yes. But I would be wanting to negotiate the price down a bit - £6k sounds a bit closer to reality to me.

Re the whinney - wouldn't bother me TBH and surely hobday etc would show up in the vetting. One of mine used to sound a bit like one of those old fashioned whistling kettles and there was nowt wrong with her breathing.

Also spooking at a wooden bridge, well so would a lot of horses. If he had never seen one it would be pretty scary. The puddle, well they are horse eating monsters to a lot of horses aren't they?

All told, if that's the worst of it, I would say you have found a good un
