I have had to make the very hard descision of parting with my K reg LWB Daihatsu Fourtrak.
She has served me well for 4 years and towed all over the country but the gear box is on the way out and not worth having to replace at her age although the engine and mechanically she is 100%, she does have some small holes where the rust is taking hold :(.

I have been looking at getting another Daihatsu but can anyone tell me if the Newer ones ( i mean P reg and younger) are as sturdy and live as long as the older ones?

Or if anyone can recommend something just as reliable?

If you search hard enough you will still find a few nice examples of the last of the FourTracks. We had 3 of them, they are very good tow vehicles, very tough, a bit lacking in refinement, but they do the job. They were all well made, reliable vehicles, so if you can find a low mileage example, go for it. I replaced mine with an Isuzu Trooper, but they don't make those anymore either and the newer models had an oil starvation problems. Now I have a Grand Jeep Cherokee, she is a good tower, very refined, but she has a drink problem.

The last of the Daihatsus were not as well made as the earlier ones I had a N Reg Fieldman SWB that I put 250k miles on in 5 years the trout farm had it for 1 year or so and it was on hire as a site vehicle on the CTRL tunnel under the Thames and it earned its purchase price back in 12 months on hire at 7 years old they dont make em like they used to.:D:D

i had a j reg Fourtrak and thought i could never replace it however i now have a n reg vauxhall monteret ,(re badged isuzu) total luxury plus same towing capacity.

Good to know I'm not the only one with a golden oldie!! :)
My old girl has now done 202,000 miles so really dont think she would last much longer!
Anyone know what year they started top go down hill??

I have had 3 - a k plate, I didn't like the suspension on that, very rolly on the corners, My next was a L fab little care with the better suspension, and my last was an N, all 3 were fab tow vehicles and If I could find another locally, I would have it like a shot!

Thanks, I think I will look at anything N reg and older. I am happy to travel pretty much anywhere to get one!
I am very unhappy to be parting with my old girl :(
