i am due to start my new job next week but the hours will be 3:30-11pm Mon-fri.
Thinking about when I will have time to muck out/ride/feed the horses and was wondering if anyone else works these sort of times and how you find it?

I was thinking I'll have to go straight to bed after work, get up about 7:30am and can spend all morning down the yard before work. I suppose the good thing about these hours will be being able to ride in daylight.

Thanks in advance :D

It's easier then working 9-5!
I worked nights and rode either straight after work at 8am or got up early and rode in the afternoon.
When I wirked earlies/lates I would ride in the morning/afternoon.
Starting work at 1530 should be perfect as you've said you get all morning at the yard and it's always in daylight.
I hate working 9-5 now in respect of the horses as never seem to have any time.

Can you get help at one end of the day... ie mucking out in a morning, so all you have to do is ride/bring in?

Err yea, don't see the problem: you sleep overnight, get up and ride. Horses go out after you have finished, you leave the food in the stables and someone brings them in.

As others have said, do everything in the morning and if they're used to being out later get someone to bring them in. If you're at livery, could you team up with someone who needs some help in the morning so you put his/hers out in return for having yours brought in?

I know not that similar but I work 10-7 and do everything in the morning most of the year. (Bring on high summer when I can ride after work :) ) Missed out riding a fair bit recently as its often too frosty in the morning so at least you can probably get more rides in by starting at 3.30 .

You should enjoy the new hours in my opinion. I work shifts and enjoy not being stuck to 9-5 routine. You are far more likely to be able to ride etc in daylight for sure! ..enjoy and good luck!

You'll have plenty of time to ride. However I used to do similar shifts & found it really tiring going to work after riding, but that's me personally. My tip is to have a quick nap before work to recharge the batteries ;)
