Will put pics up when I work it out!!

Had our JRT pup nearly a week now - she's 7 weeks old on friday. Already she asks to go out for a 'poo' and generally doesnt miss her traing pads indoors. Really pleased with her she is nearly sleeping the whole night now. Any one know when is ok to put a lead on and also when she can start having food scraps (shes had a bit of cooked chicken for her tea already - thought it was christmas) All advise welcome xxxx

How sweet! What's she called? Although how come you got her so young?
My advice would be not to feed her food scraps. As this turns them into a begging dog.
I would start getting her used to a wee puppy collar when she's maybe a bit bigger (and easier to fit) and then practise walknig her on the lead in the house and garden before taking her out aftr all her injections are done

Her name is Molly. We got her at that age because her mum had mastitis so they were weaned onto goats milk early - they were all fine and the vet was quite happy. She still gets a bit of goats milk with her puppy food. Seems very happy and is very independant. She has a little collar which she wears for a bit every day - shes geting used to it!!

Ah her poor mum!

My dog hates collars, she only wears hers when walking or if she's down at the beach don't want her good collar to get ruined so she has a check chain. You could start getting her used to the lead as soon as you want really.

My OH's mum got a JRT 3 weeks ago. He is an ASBO pup! Not taking to toilet training at all, but then they are first time owners so not sure if this has anything to do with it as well.

You need to post piccies of her!

Aww bless....

We defo need pics!!

One thing I would be careful about if you do decide to feed 'scraps' is the salt content in the food... also watch out for foods that dogs can't have e.g onions etc

Put a lead on as early as you like.... infact put a collar on and let her get used to it then introduce the lead and lead her round the house... not literally lead her but make sure she is happy with the lead on... do 5 mins at a time increasing it etc.

Mine have always had very small amounts of scraps.

Jimmy had a harness when he was 7 weeks old, just to walk around the house in - it was an XXS and looked sooo cute on him. You may find it a good idea to put an incy wincy collar on her now for a few minutes a day - supervised of course - just to get her used to it.

GinaB, terriers can take up to a year to click with toilet training - Jimmy certainly has, little monkey!!
