So after reading about a few horrific accidents I had been umming and aahhing for a while about getting a new bp. So ordered a new Kan from Derby house as they have them for £112.50 at the moment.

It has just arrived now, in big plastic DH bag, i open it to find a box that says Derby House cornflower blue stable rug x3 on it- box it battered and got a dark stain on one of the flaps. Then open box inside is my new bp- in another DH bag wrapped in a single wrap of bubble wrap, open at each end- but it has been squished into the box so the lower back section of the bp is bent round.... the Kan tags on the bp look old and a bit crumpled, one of them isnt attached- although the DH tag is fine.
Having taken the bp out of the wrap, there are a few little marks on it- like slight deodorant marks and a grey mark on the front right hand side- im sure if i wiped it would come off.

Am I being unreasonable in not being happy with this?! I mean, not only is it a really expensive bit of kit, but it is a safety thing too, i had assumed it would come sealed in some kind of Kan packaging, but this looks like it has been grabbed from the shop floor maybe....

Should i complain?

I would - in the sale or otherwise, you have a right to expect a brand new product. I'd give them a ring and see what they say.

Wow just found them under Charles Owen though

Blimey that's a good price but in answer to your question, if you've bought a brand new item then it should arrive intact, labels and all.

I would send it back for sure. If it wasn't packaged correctly the its safety properties may have been compromised. If it really is second hand, then that is shockingly bad. There's no way I would buy a second hand body protector, let alone pay that kind of money for it or accept that level of service from a big company.

Clearance maybe the products that are left overs or ones that have be tried on which either don't fit or don't like etc may explain the stain
If your not happy, I would phone them
If they are a decent firm they will refund alittle or send a replacement

Not that the OP should accept a 2nd hand item, but Kan bps are fine 2nd hand. The technology used means they are not compromised in a fall.

Okay so have phoned DH, the one I have is the last one in my size. They are on clearance becasue they are not supplying them anymore, these are the last ones.

She explained to me that the one I have has come from the Wrightington store, so has been packaged by them in the old box for protection during delivery. She said it probably would have just been tried on by someone instore more than likely. If it had cmoe from the warehouse directly it would have come in a clear bag, and then a dh bag- no box or other protection:eek:

I know that the Kan material is such that you can use it multiple times after a fall, as the material recovers to its original integrity. Its one of the things i really like about them. So really I shouldnt be so worried about it, but its just my immediate feeling when i saw the old box was-uh-oh what have i got here!?

They have one left in my size in black- in the stafford store- so dealing with same problem as the original one - and i prefer the one in navy.

The girl did offer me a refund, excluding postage, if I wanted to return it, or an exchange for the black one.

She did tell me something interesting in the course of my phonecall- that DH do accept returns on bp that have been worn. Which, I have to say, I was incredibly suprised at! I had been wrongly assuming that they were like hats- and that wouldnt and couldnt return them. So no matter what, you have no guarantee that someone has not used it, fallen off, and then returned it and the store arent re-selling it.....apparently its common practice?

Usually really happy with DH, and will be sad when the stores close as i like having a nosey round them. Girl on phone today was pleasant, but not apologetic at all.

Overall, not thrilled with level of service, but i think i am just going to keep the bp- on closer inspection, it is spotless inside - which had it been worn im thinking it would not have been.

So probably a hasty panic posting, i dont like having to complain, so need a bit of a check my expectations are not too high! so thanks for the advice all!.

I ordered my Kan direct from Kan Teq. It only came packaged in a bag taped up so there wouldn't be any original packaging of any worth to be honest.

You've got a good bargain there :)
