Picked up a gorgeous new kitten last night. 5 month old male who needed rehoming due to personal reasons.

Seems healthy enough, very confident and inquisitive. Spent the first hour or so walking round the house exploring so left him to it, set up his litter tray and food and water which he found and made use of.

Then he got sleepy and came for a cuddle. He’s very very affectionate. I have never known a cat to be this affectionate. I left my bedroom door open last night so he could come in for company if he wanted and I essentially got no sleep as all he wants to do is muzzle his face into mine and...lick my ears?!?

I had a quick google and licking apparently is a sign of affection which if that’s true is adorable but I don’t want to lock him out of my bedroom at night but I also want to get more than 5 mins uninterrupted sleep. Is this a kitten thing he will grow out of?

I’ve had cats my entire life and never been licked before, anyone else experienced this?

Will post a pic as soon as he sits still long enough, he’s gorgeous!

He sounds so cute! If the ear licking is really bothering you try putting something like Vicks vaporub on the lobes to deter him from doing it. He can still have cuddles with you but he shouldn't then keep having a go on your ears. And yes, it's not legal to do a kitten post without a picture.

Will try and get more photos tonight as he’ll hopefully be more settled and still!

I don’t really mind the ear licking during the day it’s just a bit off putting in the middle of the night when I’m asleep 😂. He is adorable though, he’s almost like a puppy. He just wants to be near me all the time 871C99F6-6C4B-4E5A-8649-B445CFDF1BA6.jpeg

My cats are now 3 and the little girl has always been a licker. She sleeps with her front legs wrapped round my neck, her paws in my hair and licks my face. She’s the most affectionate cat. I love it though, I regularly can’t sleep because she’s attached to my face wanting kisses and cuddles all night, but I love her so much I go without sleep to please her...!

The burmese we had liked to wash my face at night, he would wash and wash me until I was sore so I would try to gently distract him or move over slightly so he was washing a different bit. The problem was solved when I got Kasper and although he would still wash me, he wouldn't keep going as long because he now had a kitten to wash too. ;)

You need another cat. :D :p

Go to sleep in a swimming cap. Problem solved:)

This is genius. Although he might just turn his attentions elsewhere and I'd rather he licked my ears than my nose or mouth lol.

This is what he's like! It's like he can't get close enough. He was putting his head in the gap between my shoulders and my head which was lovely but I was scared I'd turn over asleep and squish him.

Can't argue with that logic!

My only concern is when his adult claws come through it won't be so cute anymore! I know some people get the claws cut down but I've never done that previously! Maybe I'll have to if he doesn't grow out of it cause as much as I love his soft paddy paws on my face now I'm not sure I want to potentially lose an eye when his claws get sharp and long!

My ginger cat Chilli always used to suckle on my left ear (rarely the right) and knead my head or neck which can be a Little painful at times. Sadly since I got the dog he’s moved in with an old lady over the back of my garden who encourages him in and feeds him and only comes home on nights when the weather is bad. He was so affectionate and cuddly I really miss him. Other cat is fine with the dog, but Chilli just won’t accept him at all.
