Couldn't decide on the Post Icon for this one...!

Vets x-rayed again today (accident was on Saturday). There are three or four cracks (I forget which, m'brain has been fried!). One goes halfway across the bone. There are chips loose, and another one that looks like it is going to come loose.

Apparently his leg is so swollen it's acting as a splint/support, which, as it can't be plastered given the location (top of foreleg) is good :)

We're going to take him home on Sunday and keep all our bits crossed that he does not put too much strain on it. The vet found him lying down in his stable - mild panic! Getting up from that position puts strain on the leg :( He got up okay, but each time he does it...

His bloods came back okay :) His kidneys are fine *wipes brow*. So, in short, it is a waiting and hoping game. This horse is one tough cookie :D

Fingers, hooves and paws crossed for him. I know how you and your friend must be feeling. Almost dread seeing the horse in case they've done something daft.
He does sound like a fighter after all he has been through. At least his kidneys are OK so one thing less to worry about. Now, just got to get those cracks healed up.

He is a fighter. Could he be cross tied and/or half the stable sectioned off for him to keep him stood? A horse i knew years ago broke his pelvis or something and this worked a treat for him. A mini went in the other little half of the stable for company at nights. He adapted to it pretty well, was actually very chilled and bright throughout despite only being about 3 and an arab, and recovered perfectly. Just a suggestion, i can understand how nerve wrecking it must be for him to be aying down and getting up again on it.

Keep the updates coming and i will keep fingers crossed.

Thank you all :)

SoO - he can't cross-tie as he stresses when 'trapped'; the vets were in a quandry about the best course of action, but decided on loose in a stable as being best for him (we have no nails left lol). On the whole he's been fairly sensible and seems to know what he can and can't do. He rarely lies down, just sods law he does it now!

Will be driving him back oh so slowly, no doubt with Friend wincing and gnawing on her elbows!

Ta :)

Was thinking of wrapping him in bubble wrap andpacking him into the trailer!

On the drive home from work, I was trying to devise dome contraption that would keep his leg set and supported, but without restricting him... :)

Would your best bet for travelling be to put him in a lorry and put the partitions very close together so he only just fits into the space and it stops him rocking about. And drive very slowly!
Just a thought.
Good luck with the recovery.

Awww poor lad, Ive not read your earlier posts so dont know what happened but just wanted to say, my horse fractured his Radius too nearly 4 yrs ago and you would never know it had happened. We did have to cross tie him for about 12 weeks which was awful but he loves his food and came through it fine as he had haylage 24/7. He alos lay down, cross tied??? but thankfully was fine. He did have a Robert Jones type bandage on for almost all of that time.
2nd the travelling him tight. We penned him in under vets reccomendation even though he normally has loads of room and he was transported with a splint on. Getting off the ramp was a heart in mouth experience.
Good luck and fingers crossed he is ok.

Thank you all :) He's going home in a trailer as the lorry's ramp is quite steep. I'm hoping the vet can do something to help hold his leg together during transport.

We'll have him in the trailer with the partition in. Hopefully he'll be able to lean on the breast bar to help support him. I think I've worked out the straightest and smoothest route back - we will be going slow and steady!

It's good to know if others that have come through it :D The vet says that if thebone heals ok then he should be fine :). All crossed!

:)
