So went to local tack shop today and treated myself to some lister star clippers. Started clipping this afternoon and was amazed at how very hot the blades got. They were hot enough to not be able to keep my hand against the blade. Also they kept producing a grease like substance that ended up leaving black marks all over yard and horse and had to really scrub to get off!
I oiled all the shown points every couple mins and liberally with the supplied oil, stopped every fifteen mins and left them to cool down for ten mins, and kept the hair brushed off. Tried slackening off tension an extra turn too. Horse was clean and dry and has a silky coat that I can manage to clip with my trimmer hybrids.
Final result looked good but it took two hours in total for a blanket clip! Surely this is not right?
Any ideas?

Did you tension to instruction I.e tighten all the way then back 1.5 turns?
Oil in the little holes and along the blades?
Were they new blades or might they need sharpening?
I must admit if I'm in a rush with my Lister Libertys I keep a spare set of blades and swap when they get hot also clear the blades with the little stiff brush quite often - usually swap blades every 15 minutes or so if that helps?

Was the tension correct to start with? Usually with Laser clippers I tighten them fully and then undo them 1.5 turns.

A few years ago when I only had one horse to clip I had the Lister Neon (which I think is now the Star). I did find they got quite hot and now have an old heavy duty Lister Laser which do not get nearly so hot.

i'd take them back
i bought lister libertys last year and they are rubbish :( i'm not happy at all with mine , they always get hot (too hot to use) the motor over heats and the blades get hot, there terrible , i have never had a set of clippers get hot like they do you just shouldn't need to keep changing blades every 15 mins

Thanks everyone, and yes did the turn all the way and back one and a half turn plus also tried loosening it another turn to see if that helped which it did a bit. Blades are brand new and came with clippers already fitted. Must admit I am not impressed as it took as long as it used to with my stable pros which never got got but just aren't quite powerful enough so have to re do areas a lot. The whole point of upgrading was to speed the process up, which it hasn't at all! Can I return them if used though?

Ps yes oiled all various holes etc as per instructions every few mins
