I'm thinking about moving house closer to where I work (Hereford) so was wondering if there were any DIY livery yards in that area which had good turnout and (if possible) a school. I've found a few nice yards, but they all seem to only offer part and full livery? Is anyone else finding this? I suppose that DIY does not pay well enough to make it worth offering?

There has been talk of it on my yard, I just can't see there's any profit to be made in DIY that makes it worth the hardwork of maintaining the facilities.

I suppose so - I am wondering really whether this is the way ahead for livery yards generally

And I am now trying to decide whether I am afford to go on part livery should the need arise, which seems to be a 'no' at the moment

I suppose to make DIY pay then you need to have a largish yard, so you make enough profit per horse to maintain facilities and let you earn a living

TRy some local riding clubs? They may know of places that aren't getting advertised as such but are using word of mouth instead?

Good idea annagain

I am putting the word out as much as I can , my next step this weekend is to find some saddlers etc to see if anyone has put cards etc up

Thats weird because my yard owner has always said that she makes more out of the DIY liveries in relation to time spent dealing with them than the Full liveries. She also says that with all the added extras i.e bring in/turn out/feet washing/feet picking out/walker/holding for vets, etc she makes a good bit of money from. There will always be more DIY liveries than full liveries especially when times are hard. Horse owners are only human and when they struggle for money neddy will end up with slightly less but equally as adequate care.

Yep my old YO is going over to more DIYs, she has always said the same thing, with the high cost of feed/hay/labour etc nowadays, DIY makes her more money.
