Hello,

I've just taken up riding again having had some very basic lessons as a girl. My very lovely friend Bex1984 has been letting me ride her pony and giving me some lessons. Does anyone want to share good tips for begginers?

All help very gratefully recived!!

hello and welcome, glad I've finally got you on here!

My top tip for you is to keep up the giggling while cantering, but don't forget to steer

Well done you for re-starting.
I was in your shoes about 2 years ago. Its quite scary re-starting from scratch but surprising how quickly you remember.
A very simple trick which Im sure you've already heard thousands of times (I know I had) was 'heals down and shoulders back'it really does help with your balance. Even know when I get a little worried those too simple things help settle me again.
Good Luck and remember to enjoy every moment xx

Welcome and good for you getting started again. My instructor always gets me to sing or hum if I'm doing something I'm nervous about otherwise I hold my breath!

to help the balance and posture stand up in the stirrups (grab mane if you need to) extend legs down thru ankles and heels and stay in trot for as long as you can, every time you feel yourself tip forward or fall back, start again and keep trying til you can balance for a circuit or more comfortably. your posture will improve drastically and youll seat naturally around your horses back. good luck and just enjoy enjoy enjoy. agree with the giggling! oh and dont forget, tonnes of pats to the horse for being good for you!
