Got the cartilage in the upper part of my ear pierced yesterday. I can't take the earring out until it heals. Thing is it's still sensitive to touch. I've just realised that's going to make wearing a hard hat difficult. Does anyone have any idea of how to protect the ear while wearing a helmet?

When I had my cartiiage pierced I asked them to take into account the placement of my hat, so it wouldn't catch.
TBH they take a very long time to heal, so I'd get it redone in a place where it won't be aggravated by your hat.

Thanks everyone. I'll try out the scarf today and hopefully that will do the trick. If not I'll try out the other suggestions. I'm going to put a plaster on both sides of the piercing underneath the scarf to try to minimise it catching on something.

I've got 4 cartilage piercings in one ear including the top and I've never had a problem with my riding hat hitting any of them :) they do take a long time to heal though!

My problem is when something catches on the earring and pulls it. I'm ok with direct pressure on it. Ill have to stay aware of it and not yank off my helmet like I usually do;) I'm ridiculously accident prone.
