Sooo.. went to pick up my new pony today, she was only an hour away so not to long a journey for her. She travelled well and I really think she is going to be just what I am looking for in a pony.
I was thinking about letting her settle in and maybe walking in hand a bit, but oh no my instructor, who also owns the yard, thought it best to get straight on and suggested I took part in a group lesson this afternoon. I was a bit dubious but went along with the idea anyway. Got all tacked up and then out came the jumps!!!! OMG, talk about taking it slowly, NOT!! They were only baby jumps, but still I hate jumping and have had a nightmare with my competition horse for hte last two years being dragged round the arena and numerous falls. So my confidence is not great!
Anyway, little pony responds very well to the leg and was very well behaved considering she doesn;t really know where she is! We only did little jumps, just some grids in trot etc. She jumps pretty well, although we think she has got a tendancy to rush. Then when we cantered a single jump and this was when she really got going and went as fast as she could!! I almost flew out the side door as after the jump she took a tight turn and I was still thinking about going straight! Lost my stirrups but stayed on!!! She doesn't seem worried about the jumps, just more that she has been doing pony club for so many years and the faster the better!!
Then I took her for a little stroll and she was as good as gold. So all in all a good start, as I really feel she did very well considering she had only been at the stables a couple of hours before her first lesson!!
Have not taken any photos yet, but will put some up when I get some.
