Sorry, this is going to be long!

So I have been pony hunting for the last 18 months or so. Had a couple of potentials that didn’t pan out and was getting very despondent with it all 😢

Until… I realised she was right under my nose!

My friend bought a scraggy 2 year old cob 2 years ago as a pitty purchase. I helped with some ground work and inhand hacking when she first arrived and then she was turned away. She was very small and I was overweight so she was never going to be for me. She was turned away and I’ve watched via FB her backing process this spring.

Fast forward 2 years and she is now a 4 year old mother’s dream! I saw my friend had posted she is for full loan as friend is far too big for her but she’s too good to be a fied ornament. She has tried b to sell her before but had the wrong people enquire so never went through with it.

I have lost 3 stone in the last year and am now a suitable weight to try her (I’m short at 5ft 3) so immediately text friend to see if I could try her as I was worried I’d be too big (see previous post). Turns out I’m ok and pony has hopefully got another couple of inches growth in her.

So I have taken her on loan, to stay at my friends at home yard where I am very comfortable. This was exciting enough but after yesterday, when I took my son up to see her again, everything changed! (See next comment!)

So this is Betty! 4 year old cob mare, standing at 13.2hh but very bum high.

And this is a picture from when I tried her Thursday, which I posted to ask if I looked ok on her.

Update on next post…

So my son knows Betty as we help on my friends yes when she is away and we’ve previously loaned from friend.

We went up and brought her in and she stood beautifully whilst son gave her a good groom.

She was a dream to tack up (it’s been a while since I’ve come across a horse that doesn’t have issues either saddling or girthing).

We then introduced her to my son’s scooter as he is a scooter kid and is attached to it. She had a sniff and was like, yeah whatever.

Stood stock still to be mounted (again, been a while since I’ve come across a pony willing to stand still for mounting).

And off we went, on a solo hack with my son on his scooter. She was fabulous. Left the yard now issues even though one of her field mates was yelling and fence walking. There is a lot of roadwork around the yard and she was great (I knew she was as I did a lot of initial inhand hacking) but she stood stock still and waited for a van that was blocking our way, no dancing around etc. she was fine with the scooter and my son bunny hopping around.

Then the pinnacle moment happened. We came to a kids play park that was rammed. My son wanted to play and Betty was so happy to just stand and chill. Loads of kids asked to come and stroke her and she just stood for 20 minutes whilst al these adults and kids fussed her.

Then, a group of about 8 lads on motor cross bikes came steaming past and she didn’t react at all, just looked over and turned back to her adoring fans.

We then had a forward and bouncy hack back home but she felt incredibly safe and stopped and half halted when asked.

I instantly fell in love and said to friend if she’s ever for sale I’d bite her hand off, to which she replied she will be to me. So she has put a sale price in the now LWVTB contract!

She is honestly incredible and I completely appreciate she is just 4, very green to school, never jumped under saddle (but has popped a small jump loose in the ménage last week) and will give me challenges along the way but she has already proved her exceptional temperament. She is a complete blank canvas which I love and I know her last 2 years of history, how she was backed, that she is unspoilt.

So I’ll be joining the 3/4 year old thread and here are some pictures from yesterday.

Honestly one that good is worth their weight in gold - definitely snap her up! I'm the same height as you and have a 13h and 14.2 cob. There are a lot of benefits being close to the ground!

Aww Betty is absolutely beautiful with a temperament to die for! 😍

I wish you, your son and Betty many happy adventures together 🤗

Fab stuff - what a lovely start for you both. Wishing you much happiness together. 🤩

Thank you all. Been up today for a quick session to see what she has and doesn’t have schooling wise. She has been started so well. She has all the basics, very responsive, a good bend on both reins (left rein needs a little work) very straight when changing reins, responsive to leg etc.

Then we came back onto the yard and she stood like a rock whilst I hosed her off. She is just incredible and I already love the feathers off her!

Some pics because she’s just beautiful.
